Inconspicuous eating (hidden eating). Constant attempts at dieting. Frequent weight fluctuations. Eating to Use of laxafciv es or diuretics To the editor: They have met with the administration and they like the idea. Other schools in the state have been contacted to help out. Professors have been asked if they would teach classes. To the S.U.N. party, this idea is far too important to be just another idea. The S.U.N. party is initiating a campus-wid- e internship program. Having just come home from Washington, D.C., on a internship with Congressman Hansen, I can see the importance of such a program. Besides the great resume material, it creates future job oportunities, gives you a chance to make a little money while getting college credit, opens up new friendships and connections, and lets you have a great time. Great idea again, but what has been done about it? The S.U.N. party has gotten a list of 34,000 internships dealing with any type of job a student would want including connections with 800 government agencies in D.C. They have discussed with some of the Deans the idea and the possibilities of funding for such a program and have gotten their support. College students are faced with choices and decisions every day. The students at SUSC are no exception. In the next couple of days they are going to be faced with a very important decision: which student candidates to vote for. Having looked at the candidates and the issues on both sides, I feel that the decision is clear. In the middle of winter, it appears as if the S U.N. will rise again, and for some very good reasons. The candidates on the S.U.N. party are not only qualified and on the ball, but they have done something. Every year hear, "Ill promise this and Ill promise that. And of course you always get the line, My platform is better than his. I am just glad to see that some political candidates have gone out and done something about it. For example, both parties have suggested bringing graduate test preparation courses to campus, but what have they done? Great idea but...Well, the S.U N. party has done something, they brought the idea before the Deans Council two weeks ago and it has been approved. There are two reasons. The PR.O. party most widely represents the many and varied interests here at SUSC. Just a quick glance at their roster shows this. There is Stuart Riley, a senior political science major from Louisiana, Brent Drew, a sophomore business administration major from Glendale, Ut., and Ray Olsen, a sophomore preset major from Logan, Ut. These are the president and candidates. In Arts and Letters, there is Jan Shelton, a junior theatre arts major from SLC, Ty Tippets, a minor psychology major from St. George, and Nancy Auteri, a freshman political science major from Las Vegas. In Business and Technology there is a Daryl Magelby, sophomore communications major from Richfield, Ut ; Dave Thayne, a junior business administration major from SLC, and Doug Miller, a junior business administration major from Portland, Ore In Education there is Devere Wolsey, a freshman elementary education n ajor from Orem, Merilee Riggs, a junior elementary education major from St. George, and Scott Williams, m U 51 Announcing more Cheap Thrills! One needs only to look here and see the broad representation that the candidates of the PR.O. party have in relation to the student body here at SUSC. Not only are they representative as to their majors and where they come from, but also as to religion, interests and life styles The SUN. party on the other hand is made up of good candidates, like the PR.O. party, but their candidates do not show this same type of representation of the student body and therefore their needs. Of all of the SUN's candidates nearly one half of them are from Cedar City and nearby communities. Three of their fathers are faculty members or administrators of SUSC. Most of all, they are all from the same groups of students and are a monotone of the same background in regards to religion, culture, and interests. Only two have experience in student government. More importantly, they have repeatedly broken the election bylaws and seem to have taken the idea that it is easier to break the election bylaws and then ask for forgiveness instead of asking for permission first. For example, at the Thursday night basketball game they put up a large lighted sign with campaign slogans on it and then asked the election committee if it was OK. The election bylaws clearly state that such a display must be approved first before such a display can be used. Another violation was that it is illegal to put campaign materials in the Music Building, but they did it anyway While both parties did not like the bylaws, both agreed to live by them and the P.RO. party has tried to do so On Wednesday when you vote consider this: do you want student body officers that will ignore the constitution or spend your money first then ask for your approval or Registration made easy Students at SUSC can ski for only F from junior physical education major Price, Ut. BYU has been contacted and wants to work hand in hand with SUSC in filling the many positions they have unfilled each year. Again, the S.U.N. party isnt just throwing out ideas, they have done something about it. I could go on and on. The SU.N party plans on establishing a United Arts Council, get a new student center built on campus, and maintain the programs created by the past administration. The current administration has done an excellent job. The S.U.N. party doesnt want to just sit idle and depend upon their programs to get them into office though. SUSC needs to continue on and progress with the rest of the state. We need student leaders who are willing to continue being innovative and do something for the students. We need students who understand our needs, and that is exactly what the S.U.N. party is all about. Available for early registration Check with at the Cashiers office |
