Jewish Week Begins: Exhibits, films, lectures, special events, Food Fair and folk dancing. HO tlU Coming up 1984 seminar on tap 1984: Orwell in Retrospect will be presented and sponsored by the Union Station of Ogden and the Utah Endowment for the Humanities. The project was designed to explore the relevance of George Orwells famous book to todays society. S. S. Moorty of the English department will coordinate the event on Fri., Nov. 9 in Old Administration 203 at 2 p.m. LaVon Carroll, professor of English, and Sherwin Howard, dean of humanities, at Weber State College will present summaries of their essays on the subject, and invite public discussion. Design contest slated The deadline for amateur artists wishing to enter the nationwide Battlefield Earth logo design contest has been extended to midnight, Nov. 15 by Hollywoods Salem Productions. The contest has a $1000 cash award and potential screen credit on two of Hollywoods upcoming films for the grand prize winner. Complete contest rules and entry forms can be obtained from Battlefield Earth Movie Logo Contest, 2210 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 453, Santa Monica, CA 90403. Mailed requests for rules and entry forms should include a stamped, envelope and must be postmarked no later than midnight, Nov. 15. Jewish Week coming The Public Broadcasting Service series Heritage: Civilization and the Jews is one of televisions most ambitious projects, and likewise, SUSCs Nov. 12 through 16 Jewish Week is one of the colleges most ambitious undertakings. More information can be obtained from Pauline Nelson, extension 7852. A full calendar of events will appear in Mondays Thunderbird. Dinner scheduled Beta Chi, the local chapter of the national sorority Beta Sigma Chi, will dinner Sat., sponsor a Nov. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cedar City Elks Lodge. Beta Chi has been in existence about five years locally, said spokeswoman Lisa Herron. Proceeds fund-raisin- g will go toward the scouting program. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for children and $10 per family. Herron can be contacted for more information at 586-461- 1. Raffle is slated Dale Evans has donated four tanning sessions to the PBL Club for their Thanksgiving Turkey Raffle. The tanning sessions are held in the Wolff Tanning System at the Evans Hairstyling College Other prizes in the PBL Turkey Raffle include a $25 gift certificate from Milts Stage Stop, two turkey platters donated by and turkeys donated by: Albertsons, Lins Thriftway, Safeway, and Skaggs Alpha Beta. Tickets can be purchased for a donation of one dollar from any PBL member and on Tues., Nov. 13, in Business 308 from 5:30 to 6:30. The drawing will be held Mon., Nov. 19, in the Student Center. Circle K under way The Circle K Club is now under way. Meetings are held every Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Library Conference Room, 2nd floor. Circle K is a Service Organization, with activities, parties, and a convention held in the spring. The dues are $15 for a year of membership to Circle K. The presidency recently went to a Leadership Training Conference in Provo. Raelynn Potts can be contacted at Manzanita B3 for more information. fund-raiser- s, Workshop is planned Employee motivation will be discussed at a three-hou- r workshop scheduled to be held Nov. 8 in room 103 of the Dixie Leavitt Business Building from 7 to 10 p.m. Alan Hamlin, assistant professor of business, is the workshop instructor. Topics will range from theoiies of employee motivation to role playing and the use of case studies to demonstrate the application of various techniques.
