Extending the Shakespearean Festival past the original season is the first trial step in reaching the goal of Shakespearean Festival founder Fred Adams. Adams intends to tum the festival into a nine-month full season. This means that the festival would move to its own location. "It's easy to have people come in for the summer and winter seasons, but fall is a 'shoulder' season so we wanted to see if it would still work,· Adams explained. Circe Chamberlain, a marketing intern, said that students shouldn't be affected in any way by the lengthened schedule. The festival's policy is to work around the students. Many actors and technicians were moved from South Half to the Alumni House to continue rehearsals for the fall. The plays Forever Plaid, by Stuart Ross and The Comp/eat Works of WIim. Shkspr (Abridged) , will both be held at the Randall L. Jones Theatre. "We picked popular pieces to appeal to the students,· Adam·s said. He said he hopes the new season will bring more students to the theatre. There are several discounts that are offered to any student with a valid student identification card. Group discounts and the "student rush" program offer 50 percent off each available ticket. The new season is · a great opportunity for students. The plays should not be intimidating; no one will have a hard time understanding them and they're wonderful for dates," said Adams. Many classes and programs also work with the Shakespearean Festival. There are literary seminars, stage management and acting classes that offer college credit. One theatre teacher is planning to offer half price for Forever Plaid tickets to students who wear plaid on certain days. Student housing should alsp not be affected by the additional season. The festival recently bought the-College Avenue Apartments to accommodate anyone working for the fall, , Chamberlain said, "Our g_oal is to get a separate place for shows to run all year a: round. The fall season is the first step 5 toward that goal since the Randall ~ w Theatre was built 10 years ago. Right ~ now, the university setting adds to the it festival and educational purposes. SUU > has a beautiful site and setting." ~ a, i EDITOR'S NOTE:See page 26 for more on the Utah Shakespearean Festival.
