Our first step was targeting the companies, Price summarized. The second step was arranging perks for some of them, and now our next step is to get our brochure together. Price said the administration guaranteed $2,000 for the program this year. The money next year depends on our success this year, he said. Price said he is also concerned about keeping up moral support for the program next year. One of the most significant things is to get a committee to continue on, he noted. And student officers have started workshops that continue this week to prepare graduates to meet with potential employers. Several seniors last week attended workshops on such topics as interviewing skills, how to dress for success, and how to write resumes. Workshops will continue Wedensday with a focus on job search strategies. ASSUSC President Scott Price said the school will use brochures, phone calls and letters to invite several other companies to recruit this year. Corporations that have committed to make recruiting visits are primarily interested in SUSC business students. Its just been plain easier to go to the accounting agencies and companies interested in business at first. Theyre easier to target, Price said. Im not a business major, and Id like to see other types of people come, but were going to eventually have people come down for every area. The graduate interview program was one of the promises made by Price and his GOLD party in last years elections. The idea has also been picked up by college administrators who have made it official policy. Faculty members and students were asked to recommend potential employers to try to attract for recruitment purposes, and the faculty came up with 24 different employers. Students suggested 29 possibilities. In addition, the college also plans to work on lists of employers who visit BYU and the University of Utah. Perhaps even by this year he hopes to see a business week organized, possibly by various clubs, during which recruiters could come. Placement Office Director Rex Michie has also been contacting several employers, including the Intermountain Power Project and major Salt Lake City accounting firms, and encouraging them to use the schools placement services. The college is also making a bid to host the Rocky Mountain College Conference in the summer of 1986 or more likely in 1987. That conference would draw some 150 employer representatives from throughout the western United States. A registration form has also been prepared to help track students using the placement services for training and referral. 1 909 SOUTH MAIN STREET 586-992- 0 Get the Portable Computer with FINANCING AVAILABLE AS LOW AS $20. 00 Programs, Power and Convenience!
