The special SUU adaption of the operetta by Victor Herben and Glen MacDonough will open Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Auditorium Mainstage Theatre. Presentations are also scheduled Friday and Saturday nights. Evening performances will be presented again Dec. 16, 17, and 18, and a matinee is scheduled at 2 p.m. Dec. 18. Tickets are available at the theatre ans box office. Adult tickets sell for $9, senior citizens and children's tickets cost $7 and SUU students will be admitted fo r $2. A special $3.50 ticket will admit children three tO eight years old. kThis production is a wonderful Chrisonas treat for adults a well as children," said Fred C. Adams, director. "lt is filled with beautiful dancing and inging and lots of exciting special effects. The whole presentation is enhanced by fairyland sets and a childlike charm." The story revolves around Tom and Mary who are lovers living in Storybook Land. Their plans to be married are interrupted by Tom's evil uncle, Barnaby, who plots to have Tom murdered and Mary's heep mleo. 1l1at would allow Babes Barnaby tO marry Mary and share an inheritance of which he has become aware. The children of Storybook land, who are Mary's wards, are captured by the forest trees and subsequently taken to Toyland as they search for the stolen sheep. There they assist in making toys for Christmas, and Barnaby's plottings are foiled. Buddy Waters, a senior from Snowflake, Ariz., plays Tom, and Janae Koralewski, a senior from Orem, takes d1e role of Mary. Mother Goose, the narrator for the production, and her constant companion, Voice of Sylvester, will be played by Maren MaClean, a junior, and Victo r Browder, sophomore, respectively. Both are from las Vegas, Nev. Three of the play's villains-Barnaby, Gonzorgo, and Rodrigo-will be acted by Shannon Otte, senior, Durango, Colo.; Kin Bateman, freshman, West Jordan; and Robbie Berry, senior, las Vegas. Brian Saxton, sophomore, American Fork, will be ruler of Toyland; and Roben Burdsal, freshman, Dayton, Ohio, will be hi assistant Justin Hunter, Cedar City, is Cuthben, a lQO.year-oW elf. The children of torybook I.and, and Mary's wards are Tiffany South, sophomore, Orem (Bo Peep); Chris Glad~ , sophomore, Sandy (Boy Blue)· Barry H ome, sophomore, Salt Lake City Qack); Katie Wood, freshman, St George Qill) J.J. Pearson, sophomore, Murray Qack H o rner); and Am• Keezer, fre hman, Oakley, ldaho (Miss Muffet). A 15member chorus, featuring soloist Michael Dahn, a freshm an from Henderson, Nev., is also included in the production. "We want to make our production of Babes in Tcryland a perfect Chrisonas season outing for every member of the family," Adams said. "It is a work that represents one of the landma rks in American musicals, and the original version was a major success in Victor Herbert's career as a music writer." . Babes in Toyland opened originally in June of 1903 in Chicago. Alier succes ful engagements in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Wa hingron, D.C., it began a long New York City run Oct. 13, 1903. It didn't close until after 192 performances. A film version was released in 1934, and in 1954 Babes in Toyland was presented as a television spectacular.
