Until we find one of the other institutions that wants to go at the same time, were going to put it on hold for a while, said President Gerald R. Sherratt. A major factor in this decision was the decline in enrollment suffered by Utah Valley Community College during its initial did that and lost year of change. Sherratt said, When UVCC was that first that something we enrollment substantially year, determined we didnt want to happen here. Based on UVCCs example, Sherratt said the general enrollment pattern following the change was an immediate decline followed by a gradual rebuilding to normal enrollment levels. Becoming the only public university on the semester system in the state was another contributing factor. If we could get an institution like USU to go along with us then we would consider doing that, Sherratt said. Utah State is also still considering switching, but their time table has also been set back. A third reason for the putting the decision on hold rests with SUUs feeder schools primarily Dixie and Snow Colleges. All of our institutions that are generally the transfer institutions are It is not feasible for all on the quarter system, said Sherratt. SUU to do this on its own in a system of nine institutions, only one of which is on a semester system. I still continue to feel that it would be to the Universitys advantage to do this. Were still looking at it, still exploring it, but were not actively planning to do it very soon, he said. Super Valu Menu OLD FASHIONED . HAMBURGERS 185 N. 1225 W. According to D. Mark Barton, director of admissions and records, phone registration was started in 1988 to assist students in registering for classes. Barton said the program enables students to save time and to talk with a real person about selection and availability of classes. d Barton said that now, nearly of the SU student body registers by phone. Students pay an additional $3 to register by phone. According to Barton, the fee is used to cover the expense of hiring additional registrar personnel and to add necessary additional telephone lines. The fee is, however, lower than what some other schools charge. For instance, Dixie College charges $7 for phone registeration, and Weber State University charges $6 for the same service. After a student registers by phone at SU, he will receive a copy of his schedule to review for any necessary changes. Students can make changes in class schedules over the phone, Barton added. Barton said he doubts that more students would choose the option of registering by phone if the service were free. Registration for winter quarter begins today and will run through Dec. 11. Students whos last names begin with letters U-may register today, S and T on Tuesday, O-on Wednesday, M and N on Thursday, and J-may register Friday. Registration for students with last names beginning G-- I, C-- F and A-will register Dec. 9, 10 and 11, respectively. time-efficie- nt 2 HURRy.'HURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHURRyiHllRRyiHURRy! one-thir- I 570 S.
