First on the agenda at the College Cabin is the July 21 and 22 Gathering of the Clans, a festival dedicated to the preservation of Scodands heritage and to pay homage to Cedar Citys founding nearly 150 years ago by Scottish, Welsh and Irish immigrants. The cabin will be transformed July 23 and 24 for Homesteader Days, a celebration expanded to two days this summer in honor of southern Utahs diverse pioneer heritage. Activities range from mule rides and craft demonstrations to games, story telling, Native American presentations, concerts and a trio of dances. Crews are hard at work at the cabin to get everything in order k for the events. Cabin renovations are in full swing, and facitities now include an outdoor amphitheatre, pavilions, a recreation yard for the Highland Festival and freshly graveled parking lots. Lots of fun things are planned for the two festivals, and we want families to make this an annual mountain outing, said Dean of Continuing Education Phillip C. Carter. Those who attended Homesteader Days last July 24 will see many improvements and a number of new projects yet to be completed. We think they will be pleased with what they see. Now in its fifth year, the Gathering of the Clans is being held for the first time this year at the College Cabin. Activities get under way at 8 a.m. each day and continue until 5 p.m. July 21 and conclude at noon July 22. Competition is set in highland dancing, Scottish athletic events and piping and drumming. At the games halt for the traditional Ceremony of the Massed Bands. Festival goers are treated to a variety of authentic Scottish foods and booths filled with crafts, crests and jewelry. Homesteader Days began only last year and has been expanded to two days July 23 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and July 24 from noon to 10 p.m. Visitors are invited to dress in their best Western and pioneer garb and to take part in the activities, whether theyre inclined to sit back and enjoy an outdoor cowboy concert or opt for more strenuous pioneer-typ- e games. Homesteader Days will also feature a number of craft and food vendors and a drawing for a handmade quilt. Admission for the entire four-da-y package is $5 for adults. Children under 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by a grownup. Free transportation will be available July 24 from Cedar City to the college ranch 11 miles up Cedar Canyon. Baby sitting services will be available July 23 and 24 at the Homesteader Days Kids Yard. Bristlecorie Restaurant Breaks Lounge 1575 W. 11, 'fr 200 N.
