(continued from page 4) Was the Iranscam affair worth the release heyday trying to prosecute him and his men for their wrongdoings. (Can you hear the violins in the playing background?) Those big bad press boys have already tried, sentenced and hanged him without a fair trial. Many people are somewhat distressed with the media for the way it has handled Iranscam. Many have failed to remember that it is our duty as journalists to report the facts. Had Reagan and his men not sold weopons to Iran, this would have never happened. They knew what they were getting involved in and besides, everyone in Washington should know that if they're doing something wrong that could hurt the nation, we're going to always find out about it. The United States has once again been embarrassed by the unprecedented actions of our government which have now become tradition. Throughout the years, our government has continually embarrassed us. The list of mistakes now so recognized are all memorable: The Cuban Missile Crisis, The of The U.S. Bay Pigs, overcommitting to the Vietnam war, Watergate, and now Ronald Reagan's second term, which has been plagued with the Iranscam affair. of these three hostages? Now I'm the first to admit that no value can be placed on a human life, but was all of this really worth it? Couldn't the President have found a better solution to getting our hostages released? The Iranians still haven't paid us the full amount for the arms shipments and furthermore, they never released all of the hostages they had agreed to. Fine line exists in taste TO THE EDITOR: guess you could say that this letter about taste, or rather the fine line that exists between good taste and bad. When think about this subject, the first thing that comes to mind is Greek sculpture and arab oil magnates. The Greeks produced some of the world's most beautiful sculptures glorifying humanity and the human form. Nobody really cares that these sculptures are almost without exception of nudes because they are done in good taste. Not long ago a very rich oil magnate bought a California estate complete with a large number of statues of this genre and proceded to have body hair put on the appropriate places on his newly acquired statues. Through a single action in bad taste he changed what had been objects of beauty into objects of vulgarity. I is a Avery similar thing occurred in The Thunderbird not long ago. I'm referring specifically to the Tongue in Cheek article which was published right before Thanksgiving. Satire, in my opinion, is one of the highest forms of journalism. When well used, satire provides perhaps the best forum for comment upon the condition of our society, and if understood the article correctly, it was an attempt to satirize the obsession with sexuality and reproduction which is currently so prevalent in our society today. However, if that was the purpose of the aforementioned article (and quite honestly have to use my imagination to make it so) it was done in such bad taste that I An independently owned franchise of Sounds Easy Corporation. One of the best things about student newspapers is that they are not subject to the restrictions placed on the of commercial contents newspapers; however, this is a privilege and one that should not be abused. In short I guess I am saying th$t I would appreciate it if more care and effort were put in to the editing and writing of The Thunderbird.
