In America they just yell not to kick the damn ball so much. Rugby, footballs old man, is more primitive and as technical as mechanical engineering, but it still takes a good shoulder. You can play the man or you can play the ball. Whichever you choose, itll hurt. Rugby is the sport where men are men and you can tell because they wear striped shirts. Now the sport of the British Isles has come to Cedar City. And in Cedar, like the rest of the USA, they like to run with the ball. They dont like to kick it downfield thats for the Brits. Just hit somebody. Southern Utah State has fielded a melting pot of men to play rugby on the lower quad, as a club. Saturday the Cedar City team took on the St. George Lions, and from the first scrum to the last line out, it was a war that Cedar City won 16-Rugby is normally played in two halves with no timeouts. But Saturday it was modified to four quarters, and Cedar City ' V football player Damon Olsen volunteered to wear the stripe for St. George looks to bring him down. and Rick Shirley, who scored the final try for Cedar City, te took advantage, scoring in every quarter. Local attorney Kent Winward was named captain for the Cedar team for the day and scored the first try (four points) in the first quarter. Tasi Malufau had the second score for Cedar City after he kicked the ball into the end zone and outran the other team to fall on it. Cedar Citys team is made up of football players, coaches, students, and a local cop. The Lions showed up without a full team, so a few Cedar guys filled in, and competition was in full swing. For the third quarter, Jeff Erickson switched from a Lion jersey to his loyalty Cedar and scored, In the final period SUSC football coach Andy Thornburg left the game with blood on his face, muttering, A stupid sport and a bunch of stupid guys, but with a smile. The match ended with only one major injury a dislocated knee to a St. George player. Both teams hope to become sanctioned in the future in order to have legitimate matches on a regular basis.
