Miles will take students to Studios, the Trapper John set, and to Michael Landon Productions. With the full cooperation of Michael Landon, students will talk to people in all aspects of the television industry. They will get it straight from the horses mouth, the folks in the business will tell it like it is, says Miles. will leave on a The group Cedar City Utah, 8 4720 STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OFFICE OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES 3 positions available begining Fall, 1986 jL Student Activities Intern (salary) Supervise Student Activities during evenings and weekends. Chair the Student Activities Board. $1,000.00 per quarter. 2 Student Activities Aid. (work study) Assist in supervising Student Activities. Coordinate evening activities in the Student Center. $3.35 per hour. Sunday and be back on the following Saturday to give the students five full working days there. The students can plan on speaking with personnel from every aspect of the business, from Landon himself right down to costumers and props people. Students can plan on a trip to the Screen Actors Guild and possibly to the Directors Guild. They will also speak with agents and casting directors and discuss training programs as well as how to get into one of the businesses many unions and how it all works. Along with all of this, the students may go on a few unplanned trips to see some on location shooting of Highway To Heaven. Lee awarded fellowship SUSC faculty member David Lee has been awarded a $20,000 fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts to pursue his craft as a poet. ' Lee, the author of The Porcine Canticles and other books of poetry, is one of the 93 creative writers in the U.S. to receive the 1986 fellowships, 44 of which have been awarded in prose, the other 49 in poetry. The fellowships, funded through the Literature Program of the NEA, are awarded annually To published writers of exceptional talent to enable them to set aside time for writing, research, travel or other activities aimed at advancing their careers. According to Endowment Chairman Frank Hodsoll, the fellowship recipients are selected in a peer review process that involves a panel of experts in the contemporary literature field from outside the Endowment, and review by the National Council of the Arts. Lee stepped into the literary world with The Porcine Legacy, a slim book about pig farming in southern Utah and about his wife Jan and real-lif- e friend John Sims, that was selected as a finalist for the 1978 Elliston Book Award. Subsequent books include Driving and Drinking, Shadow Weaver and The Porcine Canticles, an expanded version of The Porcine Legacy. Lees work has been published in numerous journals and magazines, including the Midwest Quarterly, Willow Springs Magazine, Cats Eye Magazine and Chowder Review.
