Show Cowgirls take top honors T-Bi- rd Goat tying expert Betty Jo Christensen led the Southern Utah State College womens rodeo squad to its second team trophy in two years at a National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) contest held last weekend at the College of Southern Idaho. At the same rodeo, Gary Bulloch widened his lead in Rocky Mountain Region standings as the finest bull riding contestant. Bulloch, a junior from Cedar City, won the bull riding contest, and has a very good shot at representing the region at the NIRA College National Finals this June in Bozeman, Mont. The SUSC mens team finished fourth in overall team standings at CSI. Christensen, a sophomore from New Castle, took first place in goat tying, and was the only cowgirl to finish in the top 10 in all three womens events, according to SUSC Rodeo Team adviser Mark Wright. Darla Hunt, a sophomore from Beryl Junction, finished second in goat tying, while team member Jayne Frei, a freshmen from Santa Clara, finished sixth in break-awa- y roping. The SUSC womens team is now in third place in Rocky Mountain standings, behind Utah State University and Weber State College. The SUSC women, Wright notes, won the team trophy at the CSI contest last year. Troy Warr, a freshman from Erda, Tooele County, finished third in bareback riding, while third place honors in saddle bronc riding went to senior Vincent Larry from Thoreau, N.M.. Jefferson Biakeddy, a senior from Black Mesa, Arizona, and Dirk Ballard, a sophomore from Hurricane, finished the NIRA contest in the top 10 in bareback riding. Also representing SUSC was freshman Ladd Dick, West Jordan.
