The ferry crosses Lake Powell between Bullfrog and Halls Crossing, saving 145 maximum road miles. Service is expected to resume on March 1. Scheduled work includes painting the exterior and decks, maintenance to the docking wedges, etc. The John Atlantic Burr is 150 feet long and 42 feet wide. Weighing about 245 tons, it displaces 100 tons of water. Vehicle capacity is 14 cars and two buses; maximum passenger capacity is 150 persons. The ferry is named after John Atlantic Burr, a pioneer Utah rancher bom in 1846 aboard a ship somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. The Utah Department of Transportation funded and directed construction of the John Atlantic Burr, with the approaches and ramps provided by the National Park Service. The ferry is operated by Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas ARAMARK.
