Show SO YOU FEEL FRUSTRATED AND DISPLACED, YOU SAY? - "Construction Gives Integrity to Work" - KANAB Jim Potter graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1967 with a BS degree in Art. He moved to California where he worked as a designer until returning to the Verde Valley near Sedona, Arizona in 1872 Jim worked as an interior designer in Sedona and seen or do not know. I have a great love of architecture and of building construction gives integrity to my work. I know the buildings I draw would stand if built. They are architecturally accurate even though I take liberties with my composi- tion. Jim went on to say, 1 love art taught for Yavapai Community and the west and I hope those who see my work will understand and feel what I feel. I believe art must communicate. Those of us who have had the opportunity to know Jim Potter as a teacher and as an artist would agree that he is good at both and does an excellent job communicating. College. In 1974 Jim returned to Northern Arizona University where he majored in Art Education and Early Childhood Education, graduating in 1975 with a master's degree. After completing his master's degree, he made a sudden change and moved into elementary education. Jim moved to Kanab in January, 1976, with his wife and their four children and began teaching in Kanab Elementary School. He has since taught special education or three years at Kanab Middle School and has also been involved in arts and theater activities with Kanab High School and the community. Jim has always been interested in drawing and painting and has been attracted to buildings all of his life. When asked to express his interest in buildings, Jim said, I am especially attracted by the architectural remnants of the early west. I see great beauty, strength, and dignity in miners' cabins, bams, and mill and mine structures. It is my goal to communicate - Jim Potter, local teacher and artist, enjoys both types of work, which he also looks at as recreation. He teaches school at Kanab Elementary School and also teaches art on the College Level at Mohave Community College extended classes. He has art displayed in Kanab at the Willows Gallery. - Have you your voice in America? It's the most important and one of the hardest jobs in the world, and yet ii's the only job for which most of us receive no training. Being a parent in the 80's is especially tough. In many families, both parents must work just to make ends meet. In single-parefamilies, the burden of making a living, taking care of children, and running the house falls on just one families don't person. Even have to worry about food, clothing and shelter, it can be extremely difficult just keeping up with the physical and emotional demands of parenting. The key to preventing child abuse is to avoid unleashing our frustrations on our children. If you've ever felt overwhelmed be being a parent, you're not alone. Do you feel troubled and nervous much of the time? Do you feel lonely and isolated with no one to turn to for help? Do you fed inadequate as a parent? Unable to cope? Are you depressed? Do little problems seem overwhelming? Are you frightened of what you might do to your child? Do you sometimes hurt your children when you're angry with yourself? Do you feel you were mistreated as a child and are now repeating your past? If you answer "yes" to several of these questions, chances or you could use some support and help in dealing with family stress -- - stress that could ultimately lead to the maltreatment of children. Why some adults abuse children and others do not is a very complex issue that is not yet fully understood. Clearly, physical and emotional stress contribute to the potential for abuse. Causes of parental stress include money problems, marital difficulties, an unruly child, and overwhelming responsibilities at home or at work, just to mention a few. But whether a single stressful circumstance or a number of crises actually triggers abuse, it is apparent that a combination of factors builds up to the point where a person simply cannot cope any longer an lakes out hisher frustrations on a cnild.
