Democrats The first regular meeting for 1986 for Kane County Democrats will be held next Tuesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room at the public library in Kanab. Chairman Don Fyfe and Vice chairman Clyde Vance are hoping for a large turnout so that the party can be a real force in this years elections. Fyfe also indicated that he would like to give a financial report and to begin the recruitment of prospective candidates, who will need a support base, will need to raise funds, and gear up for the campaign. In addition to the congressional races all over Utah, there are other problems within the state facing the voters as they look for ways out of the dilemmas of property tax relief, taxes in general, funding for education, flooding reserves and economic development. Local Democrats will be looking for any and all who have ideas and enthusiasm for meeting the states problems. -- The world today averages S3 people a square mile. - BOOKS Woman and Her Self Esteem Regularly $5.95 - Now $1.95 Achieving - Regularly $7.95 - - Now $8.95 How to Lower Your Fat Thermostat and Recipes to Lower Your Fat Thermostat Now $22.95 Both books, Reg. $25.90 SEVERAL TITLES AT HALF PRICE And a new book: Rich on Any Income Also sss theso ntw stickers now evsllabls . . . Bids are for the following two items of equipment with the minimum specifications set forth herein: Frequently ads appear in newspapers and magazines reading "Earn Hundreds of Dollars in your Leisure Time. Thousands have made Money and You Can Too". There are several types of e projects and while many are valid and productive, many are not. What many of these ads do not tell you is that you may have to spend your money to buy stamps, envelopes and other supplies and you may spend hours working without pay. Some outfits advertise that for a small fee" you will receive instructions and information on how to make money on your own. The instructions" merely advise you to place your own ad in the paper and collect "fees from others responding to your ad. Other outfits require you to purchase supplies such as sewing machines or art and other supplies from them and produce products which they will purchase from you. But in fraudulent schemes, the company refuses to pay for the product saying the work is inferior or doesn't meet their standards. e If a program is legitimate, the solicitor should tell you what is involved in writing, and at no cost to you. Questions you might want to ask work-at-hom- are: 1. Will I be paid on salary or commission? 2. Is the company licensed? 3. What will I be required to do? 4. How much money will I have to spend on supplies?...on the total cost of the program? 5. Who will pay me and when? Tax Initiative Needs More Volunteers The legislatures unwillingness to heed the will of the people and put a meaningful limit on property taxes is giving greater momentum to the 1 percent tax limitation initiative petition drive, according to Bette Johnson, Volunteer Coordinator for This la For U, the organization promoting the measure. "The initiative petition is on target for obtaining 70,000 signatures by May 31, but more uYfllmnteM. we. H.eedqd." Mrs. Johnson said. "Well have no trouble getting the additional volunteers because people are so upset with the legislature. Every day we get another five or six volunteers who want to help," she said. "The petition drive was kicked off on November 15, 1985. Since then, petitions containing nearly 50,000 signature spaces have been distributed to approximately 200 volunteers in 21 of the states 29 counties. Johnson explained that 70,000 valid signatures are needed to qualify the measure for the November 1986 general election ballot. At least 10 percent of the number of persons who voted in the last general election must sign the petition in at least 15 counties. The remaining signatures may be gathered from any pari of the state. "Utah homeowners could save up to 38 percent on their property taxes if the initiative petition is approved by the voters November 4, 1986. property A' ' ft s 41 Sa V' :r FREDONIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL constiuctlon Is progressing even in the current damp and grey waathar. "The proposal would also prevent shifting revenues to other taxes. Any local tax increase or proposed new taxes would require voter approval." Mrs. Johnson said some people erroneously assume that the limitation would curtail money needed to educate our growing school age population. "This is not true. If passed, the initiative would not cut funding for education. In fact, the legislature would retain its power to provide increased education funding from the various state tax sources," she said.
