The Council felt they could not accept these conditions. The developers asked the city to come up with some suggestions as a means to resolve the differences, but none were suggested. The Council decided to table this proposal until some study could be done. right-of-wa- y Following this discussion and after the KCR developers had left, a motion to place a moratorium on any sale of water connectons in Kanab Creek Ranchos as of February 12, 1980 for an unspecified time while negotiations are transpiring with the developers of KCR on the problems involved in the proposed sewer project, was made by Councilman Julian Fox and seconded by Councilman Ron Glover. It passed unanimously. Councilman Vance Pugh was absent. In a telephone conversation with Mayor Claud Glazier the meeting, he stated that something had following been worked out w ith the KCR developers and that he felt sure that the council would lift the water moratorium in KCR at the next meeting. In other city business, the council considered the following: Mrs. Harriet Judd presented a letter of protest to the Council, protesting the rezoning of a piece of property located at 181 South 100 East. The protest was signed by some property owners in the neighborhood (letter is on file in the City Office). Mrs. Judd was informed that the property in question is not, at this time, zoned commercial. It is zoned l and no request for rezone was before the Council. Police Chief Benny Riddle requested the Council hire an animal control officer. Councilman Fox felt the dog problem should not be handled by the Police Department because dog calls interfere with police work. Council decided to contact the CETA program to see if money is available and the use of the as the old fire truck pick-uanimal control truck. Police Chief Riddle requested Council for a pay raise for Police Departmefit personnel. He suggested the money used to pay Sandee DeMille could now be used to pay the 3 Police Department personnel. Members of the Color Country Advertising Board met in Kanab last week to discuss the role of that board in relation to advertising of Kane County and the rest of "Color Country" so far as the traveling public is concerned. Members of that board include Aina Wiken of Kanab. who is also chairman of the Kane County Travel Council. John Van Enige. Craig Davis. Clair Lee, Doug Knell and Alma Truman. Mr. Truman has just been appointed as executive director of the Color Country Board. About 20 local residents attended the public meeting where Mrs. Wiken began the presentation by explaining what the Transient Room Tax is. This is an optional, by county, tax placed on motel rooms and RV camps, etc., which is designed to raise funds for advertising. Some concern has been expressed locally as to the use of these funds and some have felt that this area could do better by withdrawing from the Color Country group and going it on our own with our own funds. This board assured the local residents that they wanted Kane County-ithe Color Country group and felt that funds can go much further for the purpose intended when the area bands together. To illustrate the effectiveness of staying together, Mr. Lee explained what has been done in the past as far as participating in travel shows goes. He said that Color Country will be going to about seven travel shows for the LYNETTE MAXWELL SUSAN REESE ELIZABETH SORENSEN Homemaking Music Business Education 1 It was reported that the Movie Ranch will host about 91 tours at the cookout cave this summer. And the Color Country board has opportunity to talk to most of them during these shows. "The travel shows are the best wav we have of adeems ing Color Country." Mr. I.ec said, "and no one count;, can afford, by themselves, to go m all these shows." It was pointed out bv the board that Color Countrv is taking the lead of Utah Regions in travel show participation and that other regions are following Color Country and looking to them for leadership in this aspect of travel advertising. To th? question of "What would happen if Kane County withdrew from the Color Country group?" the answer was: Color Country would then concentrate only on their own areas. For instance, the scenic wonders of Bryce, Zion. Grand Canyon and Lake . Powell would show on adver- tising maps but no towns in Kane County would be listed. When asked about a port of entry in Kane County, the board said that one of the top priorities of the Color Countrv Advertising Committee was a port of entry here.
