But a fourthperson tried to Join them - a girl with "a spirit of divination whose owners were making money her prophecying. Not needing the kind erf ballyhoo the girl was providing, Paul acted in a scriptural manner and exorcised the evil spirit from the girl. Deliverance from the demon also freed her from exploitation. Men with such a racket do not take lightly the loss of their gold mine. They trumped up charges against Paul and Silas and had them thrown in jail, overlooking an important technicality - they had flogged and imprisoned Reman citizens without a trial. What Paul and Silas did in prison, and how they got out, is the heart of our story. So we'll trust the reader to peruse Acts 1 6 to fill in the details. But one detail Is not spelled out In the text. Why was the jailor about to kill himself? And another -Why didnt Paul and Silas "split (pardon the modern term) when they saw the Jail doors open?
