Outgoing Lion President U. S. Gardner conducted the meeting and turned the guidance of tne club over to newly elected president, Sylvan Johnson, following a delicious steak supper wills all the trimmings at Cave Lakes Ranch where Lion and Lioness Richard R. Riley were hosts. ' Working with Lion Johnson during the coming year will be, Lynn S. Findlay, 1st vice president; Floyd Maddox, 2nd vice president and Robert Cormani, 3rd vice president. Lloyd ' Solper is the new 1 year director, Dick Worthen, 2 year director, with Richa.d V. Ketchum hold over director. Dr. Richard Riley is the new D. Braithwaile, Diiettor of College of Southern Utah, of the appointment of a new physical education Instructor in the Division of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. Charles Stephen Lunt, native of Cedar City, will fill an interim appointment on the physical education department staff for the year 1965-66- . He will teach physical education and assist in coaching. Mr. Lunt is the son of Mi . and Mrs. Willard H. Lunt, Ce dar City. He graduated from CSU with an Associate in Science degree in 1956. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in 1958. He majored in physical education with a minor in bust- ness. He is working towaid a Masters degree from USU. He taught at Kanab High School and coached altheletics prior to his appointment at CSU. He will begin his assignment at the college at the beginning of fall quarter. Mr. Lunt is married to the former Sherrill Hunter of Fillmore. They are the parents of two sons, Troy, 3 and Rick 1. Current Events. . . . Bums Swapp was in Kanau visiting over the weekend from Salt Lake City. Bums, a former resident, is employed with the Salt Lake Board of Education in Salt Lake. Oliver Wendell Holmes Linda Smith, Miss lCcr.3 Ccunty, In Miss Ut:h Square Dance Jamboree Successful The Circle K Square dance Jamboree held here last weekend proved to be very successful with callers and dancers from Utah Square dance clubs Joining with local danceij. Also present were Mi. and Mrs. Lon Buckley, Mr. Bucklty is president of the Associated Square Dance Clubs of Utah, also, our past president, Wendell and Mrs. Taylor. Out of state dancers came from Las Vegas, Phoenix and Rockchester, N. Y. A delicious dinner was served to all dancers after the evenings dancing. Cental Miss Linda Smith, ' daughter of Mr .and Mrs. Ken Smith of Kanab, represented Kane County well this past week In Salt Lake City In the Miss Utah for 65. Miss Smith, Kane County Tair Queen for 1964, appeared with other contestants from a I over Utah in the contest and many people in this area were able to watch the contest that was televised over KSL TV from Salt Lake City. While not winning the contest Miss Smith did show up very well in the contest with her fine poise, talent and beauty. Miss Bonnie Vernon of Salt Lake City was the winner of the crown. St. George Cow Tops Ail Records Story Hour Time and Days In connection with the 4th of July program swimming, competition will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Monday, July 5th, steak dinners, free show tickets and free tanks of gas have been lined up as prizes, said Francis Kelly, city recreation director. The tennis tournament pairings have been made In both singles and doubles, contest-- , ants will be notified by phone as to time, etc. In addition to the horseshoe pits that have been made south of the pool, we have a picnic table that has been set up in the visitors area to be painted and checker boards will be set up for swimmers and others who tire from the pool and need a little diversion. Our family plan Is going on fine, with more family tickets at $12.00 per family being bought each day. Mr. Kelly also said that the pool Is open to private parties 1 for anyone desiring it. Call to make arrangements. LaRue Cox from Orderville visited at her parents, the Hoyts, over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Palmer and baby visited the . Ray J. Palmers here over the weekend. Irene Cox went to St. George with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Starr Thursday. She visited her sister Mrs. Margaret Sorensen until Sunday, and returned with Ray Palmer. The program was under direction of Mack Von Brown as master of ceremonies. He also gave incidents in the life of Edward Robinson. Maude Swapp Robinson was honored with a corsage, being the oldest and the only one present of the three living of Richard S. Robinson. Mrs. Faun Robinson read an original poem, written by her husband Graydon Robinson. A vocal solo was sung by Heidi Robinson, accompanied by her mother who is visiting here from Germany, the songs being in German. David Robinson played two original piano ' .. solos. . The remainder of the afternoon was spent visiting the near by scenic places of interest and visiting relatives here. Kane Co., said youths wishing to enter the Corps must apply soon, or before July 6. Dr. Dixon said "after July 6 available N.Y.C. openings will be filled with availaole applicants. Those making application after this date will oe considered for only such job openings as result from terminations. ' Dr. D. R. John Martin recently left for Walla Walla, Washington where he will be employed on a dam project there with Mr. Bacon who Is now associated with the Vinell Corp., contractors on the dam. |
