Thayne recently received his Masters Degree from Colorado State University at Boulder, Colorado, and is now with the U. S. A Cmtf BRYCE CANYON, UTAH In recognition of the increasinglm porta nee of land use conservation and of the travel industry in Southern Utah and' to stimi late the interest of high school students, particularly toward care ers in these fields the Natural History Association of Bryce Canyon National Park will sponsor an Essay Contest for the high school students of Kane and Garfield Counties, Superintendent Louis W. Hallock announced tojay. Essay topics are taken from the general field of conservation and cash prizes will be to the three top entries In each county. All high school students, except cildren of permanent state or federal conservation agents or employees, are eligible to compete. The rules, in brief, will be as follows: Kanab Hens Holes 1. Essays shall be typed or neatly handwritten and double-spaceon un!j,ned paper. 2. Use one side of paper only. 3. Essays shall be between 1000 and 2000 words in lenqt.i. 4. Essays, must be submitted for one only of the seven topics outlined in the rules. 5All entries must be rec-ied on or before May 10. 1965, and must be endorsed by the students English teacher. 6. Entries will be judged pn the basis of originality, accuracy, and clarity of expression of Jie.r ' contents. 7. All entries become property of the National Park Service and the decision of the judges will be final. 8. Prizes will be $25 00 firt prizes. $15 00 for second prize, and $10 00 for third prise, for each county. Prizes will he at school graduation exercises. The library facilities at Bryce Canyon National Park vi' be available for students use seven days per week during park working hours.
