Two words, in fact: Buy Bonds. This year for the first time, the Chairman points out. Uncle Sam is making it possible for vou to take vour refund in Series E Saving! Bonds by the simple expedient of putting an X in the appropriate box on the tax form. Last year some 40 million taxpayers received cash refunds on their taxes. Judging from samplings of opinion, a lot of them would have preferred to get their money in Savings Bonds if theyd had the chance. Bond Chairman Cowley wants to make sure any of them who live in Kane County know they now have that chance. The way the bond option works is simple. The Treasury will issue the smallest possible number of E bonds of the largest possible denominations to cover the of the refund. If theres anything left over, a check will be written for the balance. The one complication comes if the one to 99 casl1 Glance is fro apcents, since the check-issuin- g paratus cant handle anything less than a dollar. Details are given in the instructions. What about joint returns? Mr. Cowley gave us the answer to that one too. John and Mary Smith' on the tax return becomes John or Mary Smith' on the bond registration making them and morning, 7 Tuesday morning, (today) we had a warm 1 Farenheit reading! The two to three inch snow cover is still with us and there are many icy spots, but the relatively warm daytime temperatures are making it apparent that the cold weather will not last too long. Many people have had trouble with frozen water pipes, difficulty in starting their cars, but no reports of serious trouble due to weather have been heard. We will our usual warmer appreciate weather after this cold spell. 10, Monday -- -- si U't LeRoyP.
