It was the unanimous of the Irrigation Board that the' proposed Elbow Dam to be constructed at the confluence of Kanab Creek and Sink Valley Creek would be Impractical because of the extreme sediment that would be deposited in the reser-- . voir and because of the high cost for the benefits that would be derived from such a dam. The life of the dam hfffeeen determined at iTyears at the present sediment rates. Representing the Soil Conservation Service was John Bradshaw, assistant State Conservationist of Salt Lake City and Glenn Murray, acting Area Conservationist from Richfield, Utah; and Dwain Haacke, Unit Conservationist, Kanab. Mr. Hubert Lambert representing the State Engineers office, reviewed the application for storage rights on the Elbow Dam, and said that action on the application was over due and that something should be done to bring it to a conclusion. Earl Sorensen and Norman Car-rowere present at the meeting to represent the Town of Order-vill- e and discuss the flood problems there. It was suggested by Mr. Bradshaw that the Long Val- ley people consider an overall small watershed project that included the Muddy Creek and East Fork of the Virgin River drainages. A program of this type would treat all problems within the watershed including damages to urban towns and on the watershed. Whether or not such a program will be planned and carried out depends primarily on the interest shown by the local people. There is a back log of applications made to the State Engineers Office, that would have to be considered in their order of importance before any committments cquld be made a; to when planning assistance could be made available for this ll project IheOldlivrWz. chairman.
