The Agricultural Act of 1961 provides that farmers may divert acreage from the production of wheat and earn payments for putting the land into approved conservation uses. The law requires them to divert a minimum of 10 percent of his highest acreage if such acreage has not exceeded 15 acres in the past three years. This minimum diversion is reflected in the 1962 farm wheat allotment, which was sent to farmers prior to the referendum. In addition, farmers may voluntarily divert, an additional 30 percent, and even more generous acreage diversions are available for small farms. The individual farm rates of payment will be based on the county rates and the farms productivity in relation to the. county average. Farmers are being encouraged , to divert the additional acreage above the minimum 10 percent reflected in their allotments because: a, c your choice of color and style mountain states telephone QwilUMkh- 'Pam- times- - .
