GEORGE D. CLYDE Governor of Utah (6) We Are Offered A Real Opportunity With the holding of the Elbeetian Convention in Kanab next week, we beleive that Kanab and this area has an opportunity seldom offered a small community. Men from all over the nation and several foreign countries will be here for a weeks visit, rest, and meeting with their fellow members. We beleive that everyone in Kanab should extend themselves to be sure that we make every effort to be courteous, helpful and honest in showing this fine group a good time. For many me hs the Elbeetians have been advertising their convention in Kanab. They have used page after page in their regular monthly EIBEETIAN magazine. They have featured on their - letter heads and envelopes-a- s well-a- s stickers for Ka-na- b- mailing. We have received world-wid- e publicity by their activities. The feelings and understanding that they will carry with them when they leave Kanab will he equally as important, or more so, than the publicity and advertising that we have received by them in the past months. If the convention and their week-lonstay here is successful and has made a good impression, the good that this group can do Kanab and the area will be felt for many months, and years. Some members started arriving this week. Mr. Earl Romey of Indiana, dropped into our office early Wednesday morning. More will come this week end with the 'full membership in attendance next week. Lets all join together and show this group that has done a world of good during the past many years, that we fully appreci-- 4 ate their choosing Kanab as their 1959 Convention Site! ! g ! Only .lossy - Out Its Ours When eighty billion of anything are moving around in all directions, it probably is inevitable that some will end up lost, strayed or possibly stolen. Federal agencies had more than eigthy billion dollars to move around last year. It was quite a job to see that just the right number got to just the right plafcts for just the right purposes. Even when some of those billions of dollars were translated into millions of necessities such as ships and shoes and shooting irons, it was still a kingsize chore to keep up with all of them. No wonder then that the Comptroller Generals office, checking the Philadelphia navy yard, found a $26,000 boat and $200,000 worth of other equipment which the Navy had lost track of and written off. Or that the same navy yard had 1,022 more sandalwood chairs than it had people to sit in them. Or that a supply of WAC clothing turned up at another military base. Or that for every government typist the government now owns two and one-hatypewriters. Or that the navy buys sunglasses for $0 while the Air Force sells the same glasses as surplus for $1.25. Or that some of our foreign aid dollars arent buy Ing what we think they are buying. - Yes, its probably inevitable. Yet the sneaking suspicion arises that not quite so many tax dollars would go astray if not quite so many of them were going around. 40-ye- ar lf d to-wi- Old-Tim- Its new-comer- n. self-relianc- e, . ever-popula- iNFUtio STATE OF UTAH R .. ..
