Thursday, I came back to Richfield to attend a meeting on the Agricultural Conservation program and the Soil Bank. Also present at the meeting from Kane county were Alton Pugh. ASC office manager, and Mark Swapp and Rell Little, committeemen from Kanab. The information we were given at the meeting indicates that the Department of Agriculture is going to get farmers to put their entire farm in the Conservation Reserve part of the Soil Bank. There are so many different ways of signing up and figuring the payment that it would take a Philadelphia lawyer to give you all the details, so I wont attempt to do it here. If you are interested and if you have a farm you shoud be see Alton He Pugh, ASC office manager. Kagenerally is in his office in nab on Tuesdays and Thursdays and. although his pay stops at 5 oclock, he is home at night and can tell you just how this program works. At the Richfield meeting, two Kane county men were honored, even though they were not there to receive their awards. The 'awards were a certificate and a pin from the Department of riculture for service as an A C P committeeman. Marcellus Johnson of Glendale received a award and Donald Swapp of Kanab received the award. I think that it is quite a record. There aren't many men who can get elected to the same job every year for 20 or even 10 years! to I hated to say good-by- e Wayne Rose, county agent, last week. J have been working closely with Wayne the past five years and certainly have enjoyed the association. You will go a long way to find anyone who is as willing to help out as Wayne is. I certainly wish him all the best in his schooling and hope to see him again when he returns to Utah. Work is proceeding at a good rate on the Frank Ghiglia ranch in Johnson canyon. Wayne Sims is leveling about 50 acres of land and ' enlarging two irrigation reservoirs.
