County and State officers said this week that promiscous use of dynamite in and around the Kanab area is increasing and that anyone caught using same for other than legal use may be charged with a felony. The law enforcement officers said that youngsters and others are apparently getting the dynamite from contracting sources in the area who are using quite a lot in their work. Officers stated that anyone requiring the use of dynamite might keep a more careful watch over same, and thereby help prevent accidents In the hands of inexperienced users or children. . . at the Parry Lodge at 7 :30 p.m. Club officials, said that a regular program will be conducted and that the dinner will be $2.25 a plate. Young will present a recital in Kanab at the Elementary school, May 5th. Mrs. Young said that the younger students will perform at 6 p.m. and the older students at 7:30. The Foundation report shows that on June 30, 1957, the Federal Government owned 36.5 of the million acres, or 69.2 total land area of the State. The only state having a higher percentage of Federal ownership was Nevada with 87.7. In addition to the lands owned the report observes that the Federal Government holds in trust another 2.3 million acres of land In Utah. These are mainly-Idian tribal lands. Thus, the U.S. Government owns or controls 38.8 million acres, or nearly, 74 per cent of Utahs total land surface, which consists of 52.7 million acres. v According to Foundation analof the ysts, approximately 90 land owned by the Federal Government in the U.S. is located within the 11 Western States. Land under Federal ownership is equal to 48.4 of the total land area of those 11 Western States. For the other 37 states Federal ownership constitutes about 3.8 of the total land area. Most of the land owned by the Federal Government in and the other- Western States is part of the public domain, In Utah the public domain makes up about 99 of the total Federal land holdings with other acquisitions being equal to only 1 of the total. . The total cost of Federal property in Utah is $351.1 million, according to the Foundation report.
