Pugh Family Reunion Is Held With Family Members Enjoying GeMo-Gether Coach Boyd Adams of the Kanab high school announced this week that football will be included on the 1957 sports calendar this coming year. The sport was dropped by the cowboys in 1955 because of lack of interest and decreasing enrollment, but with the area starting to grow again and with an influx of students due to Kanabs nearness to the Glen Canyon Dam, Coach Adams and Principal Thomas Lawson, decided to resume the sport. Coach Adams told the S.U.N. that he would have at least 35' gridders out according to a early survey he has made. The Cowboys are looking for a couple of practice games and said that they would like to hear from schools nearby who would exchange games in alternate years. The sons and daughters of Edward K. Pugh, deceased, and their families met with their Englestead relatives at Duck Creek for a week of camping during the last week of July. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Pugh and children including their daughter Marlene and husband, Bill Culvert, all from Magna. Most of the members of the Pugh family spent part of the time visiting in Kanab and Mt. Carmel. A pleasant time was enjoyed by all. Next year they plan on .having their reunion hv a beautiful canyon with a nice campground near Kanosh, Utah. and around Alton. lie said something that I have ben thinking of trying, but have been afraid to recommend. That is the fertilizing of grass under range and dryland conditions. Ihave been afraid that the fertilizer might cause the plant to bum after the spring moisture was gone, and would result in a loss, rather than an increase of feed. Dr. Hafenrichter says, however, that it should be safe to put on up to 40 pounds of available phosphorus and .30 lbs of available nitrogen per acre. This amount, he says, will not only result in an increase of the amount of feed produced, but will also improve the quality. He says that if you dont think it will improve the quality, fertilize a small plot and see where the livestock concentrate. I would very much like to see fertilizer tried on several locations in the District, but I rec ommend that anyone interested not go overboard, and fertilize Fertilizer costs everything. and I believe it wise to apply it on a trial basis before spending a lot of money. At the range workshop I heard about an injury to sheep that may effect some of the sheep men this summer. That is blindness caused by what we call needle and thread grass. It seems that when this grass is ripe, the seed with their long pointed awns can work through a sheeps wool, into their skin and on into their eyes. This loss can be prevented either by grazing before the awns form or after the seed has fallen to the ground.
