Pierpont Ave. Kanab, Utah Volume 37, Number 21 Teen Age Republicans (TARs) Will Participate In Workshop Quite a contingent of young people will be leaving Kane County for an expense-paitrip to Salt Lake City this Thursday and Friday for a Workshop in Practical Politics according to ReMadolyn Marshall, Teen-Agfor Chairman publican Campus d e Senator Wallace F. Bennett. This workshop for Volunteers for Bennett will be an affair in the University of Utah on August 17. At last count, at least eleven people will be at the workshop from this area. In addition to Maddy Marshall, Kanab High Schools Studentbody the trip will be made by Gary Johnson, Joy Jameson and Terry Lewis, of Kanab; Tim Heaton, Douglas Carroll, and Gaylen Hoyt of Orderville and Maxwell from Glendale. Those providing transportation and supervision for the group are Jay Findlay, Patric Lewis and Jim Carrico. Included in the plans for the workshop are a parade through Salt Lake City to the University, speeches by Senator Bennett and his staff, a luncheon, and buzz groups. Gary Johnson, Senior Class President at Kanab High School exclaimed, "This looks like its going to be quite a deal for all of us guys. It came up with some real surprises didnt it? Previous to the convention, Id have guessed that Spiro Agnew was either the Jewish words for French toast or a bad crossword puzzle. And now hes the Republican nominee for vice presi-iden- t. Agnew very graciously acknowledged before the convention that his name was not a household word. This I would call an understatement. It marked the first time in convention history that delegates responded to the vice presidential nominees selection with a resounding "Who? And then swung onto his bandwagon chanting, "We want whats-his-name- ! As for the presidential nominee, Richard Nixon, hes quite a guy. Knocked to the political canvas twice, hes come back to win a place in the sun. Hes turned jeers to cheers and convinced his most caustic critics. A junior rodeo scheduled for August 24, Saturday, at 4 p.m., will be of interest to the youngsters, and most interesting for adults to witness. The Rodeo is being sponsored by the Coral Sands Lions Club. It will be open to all children 18 years and under. Two divisions will be featured for the rodeo, junior division will include youngsters up to 13 years of age, and the senior division, from 14 to 18 years. Little League, State Tri-Ci- ty Champs Honored At Dinner Tri-Cit- All-Star- Utahs State Little League champions were honored Friday evening at a steak fry and watermelon bust, by Karl Jameson, distributor of Standard Oil Products. The little gCant baseballers from Orderville, Kanab and gathered at Mr. Jamesons home south of Kanab at about 7:30 p.m. for some activities before the dinner. Shortly after they arrived, head chef Karl Jameson, put the steaks on the grill, and with the assistance of his wife Afton, and Della and Les Pugh, served a very delicious meal of steak, salad, dutch oven potatoes and watermelon to the hungry champs and their manager Mr. Blackie Janes. Also present for the occasion was Marshal Francis J. Wedding Rifes Will Unite Kanab-Dixi- e Couple, Aug. 30 Mr. and Mrs. Neil Crosby announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Marie Adele to Mr. Steven Terry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maeser W. Terry, St. George, Utah. The couple is planning an August 30 wedding in the St. George Temple. They will be honored at a reception that evening in Kanab and August 31 at an open house given by the future bridegrooms parents at their homo. The bride is a 1966 graduate of Kanab High School and attended Dixie College where she graduated in 1968. While at Dixie she served in the Latter-daSaint Student Association as the secretary both years. Mr. Terry is a 1964 graduate of Dixie High School and has fulfilled an LDS mission to the Central Atlantic States Mission. He also graduated from Dixie y College in 1968.. He was affiliated with Sigma Gamma Chi where he was the vice president and was in the Stage Band. The couple plan to finish their education at the College of Southern Utah where they both have received Presidents Award scholarships. One pundit stated that Nixon may have won the nomination and lost the election at the convention because of his selection of a running mate. Of course he went on to justify, perhaps, that selection, giving possible good reasons for the k choice. I liked the cartoon in Sunday Tribune in which Nixon said, You want to know why I chose you, Spiro? Because nobody knows a dang thing about you. Ycu heard about the citizen who turned on his TV and wanted to know what all these people were doing, wearing funny hats, blowing whistles, screaming and marching around. His erudite GOP neighbor explained that they were engaged in picking the next president of the United States. "Really, exclaimed his bewildered neighbor, the last time we did something like that, the cops came and broke up the party. Utah was second in the nation in 1960 in registered voter turnout. In the last presidential election of 1964, Utah was in first place. Utahns should be justifiably proud of ths excellent record and be determined to remain in that number one spot The Utah Voter Turnout Campagin of 1968 is asking the support of all civic clubs, all womens dubs, Utah Jaycees, the Utah PTA, the State Democratic and Republican parties, news media, labor unions, chambers of commerce, all divisions of the state educational system and other interested parties. The campaign is a continuing project to remind Utah voters that the minimum price of freedom is the exercise of their sacred franchise to vote.
