"We feel that the highway commission should go along with the commitments already made to us and finish the road," Whiting said. ' The Kaibab Timbermans Fraternal Organization, an independent union at the. Fredonia mill, also would welcome construction of the highway. President Bill Cuslck notes that the 50 members of his union are 100 percent behind company and town efforts to see the road completed. Mack FTost, plant superintendent of the mill and a past Kanab Chamber of Commerce president, notes that residents in that Utah city are fully behind completion. One bridge of four has been completed by the state. Others appear to be in the wind, but Fredonia Mayor Arland Brooksby reminds that the Highway commission twice made the statement that the Arizona portion of the road would be completed before Utah even turned a shovel-fu- ll of dirt. Overgoing night, highway traffic north and south on the major highway, detoured around the town, through Page and Glen Canyon and into Kanab, just north. Left in the wake of the realignment of the highway were closed businesses in Fredonia and new businesses in Kanab. Residents of the two towns, however, are not squawking among themselves. They only harbor the normal competitive ideas of towns so close. . They are, however, determined a single course of action on highway 389. "Whats good for one is good for the other" is the byword and they realizejdso that this means Kaibab, backbone of both economies. Approximately 15 employes of the mill live in Colorado City (Short Creek) about 40 miles down the road (389). Completion of the planned highway would also help on that end. Residents ' and civic leaders want only what has been promised them for so many years. Then the 72,000 pound Kaibab trucks can roll back and forth westward and with them a boat load of eonomy boosts for the area. (Next: Highway Department (Next: Highway Dept.
