Dear Sir: I oppose the Civil Rights Act of 1963 on the grounds it will result in oppression and sufferng by both whites and Negroes. I dont believe the general public is well enough informed on the context of this Bill and what the consequences will be if it becomes law. I believe it is one more step, (and a long one) toward Communism and dictatorship if it is passed. I dont feel the Negroes as a race has put forth enough effort to improve himself. He is attemp-tin- g to capitalize on the efforts the Whites have put forth to improve themselves and this country. believe the only just way to act on this bill is to first give all of the voting public that full contents of this bill in a form understandable by ail voters together with an explanation of the effect it will have on us as citizens, society, economically and politically, I if passed. I doubt there is much question in the average citizens mind as how the civil rights act would be inforced if made law as this point has been and still is being demonstrated in the South as well as other parts of our nation. However, I believe each individual Citizen should be informed on this point and have the opportunity to express his individual opinion as to whether or not this point is acceptable to him by allowing him to vote on the issue. I dont believe that taking the rights from one group and giving them to another is just or fair. I feel our government has become much too complicated and too powerful to serve the interests of its citizenry justly and effectively. Vallsy II foil School lows lotos - by Carta Spencer The students at Valley are busy again this week, but perhaps not as busy at studying as they should be. Instead they are busily preparing for their weekend trip to Richfield where they will cheer for Valley High Sctiool who has entered the Garfield Division of Region Nine in second place. We hope to see a lot of townspeople at Richfield this weekend to watch the Valley team shine. Announcement of their Junior Prom theme was made last Friday by Junior Class president, Keala Hepworth. The theme for this years prom is Orchids In The Moonlight. This outstanding event will take place on April 17th. The Senior's debate teams traveled to Panguitch ahd Piute, Tuesday, to participate in debates there. Students winning in the Exchange Assembly tryouts combined their numbers and presented their assembly to the Panguitch and Piute schools. Every one had a lot of fun presenting this assembly. Sweaters, pins, and bracelets are now on sale by the seniors, so anyone wanting to buy a sweater, a pin or a bracelet, contact a senior and they vill be happy to supply you with the item you want. Everyone hurry while the supply lasts. time pouring over the news papers and attempting to become news analysts, and reach a decision a$ to whether what we read is true or false. I am not opposed to Civil Rights or the advancement of colored people. I believe in their right to advance through their own efforts and applying themselves through the facilities they now have and the ones they can create and be created for them. I do not believe they should be allowed to infringe on the rights of other races who have bettered themselves by their own efforts. I believe the Negro can form his own communities, businesses, and economy as other races have done, especially in our larger cities and enjoy he same freedom and selfreliance other- - races do if they will apply themselves as suggest we use some of the dollars we are giving to countries the world over, (who have through attempting to conquer the world and our way of living) got themselves in the state they are in, for a better purpose. dont believe it is too much to ask that whatever portion of this money is required to inform the citizenry in common every day language the contents of this bill and its results, plus any other bill of major interest, to the public. We, as citizens, should have a larger voice in our government others, do. and its decisions and actions. Let's halt this march toward We taxpayers are the footing communism and a dictatorship bill; let us have our say without and return to a democratic form spending hours and days of our M-cmfccT.
