At the request of some producers, feeders, and packers the USDA has formally announced that it Is considering discontinuing the voluntary service of grading lamb and mutton on August 1. The lamb producers, feeders and packers making the request indicate that they think that grading tends to cut the price paid to producers. There Is not full agreement, however. Other industry groups including producers and packers as well as wholesalers and feel that the service aids efficient and orderly marketing of lamb. Some of these have urged the United States Department of Agriculture to continue the grading service.
