And costs govern the ability to compete. All American mines pay about the same for wages and supplies. But taxes, which are equally important costs, vary from state to state. If our mines are burdened with excessive taxes, they can't compete. And Utah will lose jobs, tax income and the chance to attract money to develop new mining ventures. Here is VAs seven-poicheck list to help veterans get started right: 1. Veterans are allowed only one change of course. Give plenty of thought tp your goal and the training program leading to that goal. 2. If not sure of your goal, you' may request VA vocational last-minu- te nt counseling. Be sure your course has . 3. been by the state in which the school is located. VA Regional offices and hot VA headquarters in Washington, D. C. can furnish information about approved courses in your state. 4. Camplete arrangements for admittance to your school before you file an application with VA. 5. Completely fill out and sign your application. Send it, along with a photostat or certified copy of your separtfion papers, to the VA Regional office in your state and as soon as possible. This will enable VA to iron out any snags befoye school starts. 6. If you have dependents, have the necessary proof of dependency ready when VA requests it. For a wife, this would be a photostat of the marriage certificate; for a child, a photostat of the birth certificate. 7. Take along enough money to tide you over the first two months of training. It takes that long, ordinarily, for the first monthly GI check to reach the veteran. Payments are made only after each month of training is completed and not be, fore. Also, before VA may make a payment, it must receive a certification signed by, the veteran and his school, stating that he has been in class all month.
