Political Folly Associated Civic Clubs Meet Member --of Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation gCHB Member of Federal Reserve System At Vernal, April21 The monthly meeting of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah was held at Vernal on Saturday, April 21. Board members from 7 of our counties were present at the afternoon and evening meetings and a total attendance of about 100, Including representatives of the Forest Service, Fish and Game and Utah Mining Assd. County Commissioners, Mayors and various towns were also there. President Royal T. of Loa presided and conducted the meetings. Many projects pertaining to our area were discussed and many resolutions were passed for the support of these projects. A resolution was passed endorsing a loop road from the Dinosaur National Monument Museum to the scenic area of Echo Park and Split Mountain. A recognition of the right of every individual to join a union or to refrain from joining, as he chooses. 2. No interference with this right through violence, retalia tion, subterfuge or coercion of any sort. 3. A striving for the utmost efficiency and productivity and the elimination of economic waste of every type. 4. An end to monopoly, Whether on the part of organized labor or of industry. f 5. Keep politics out of relations and avoid trying to obtain by political pressure that which cannot be justified economically. . Surely if both organized labor and industry subscribe to this cotie and respect their pledged word, they can work together labor-manageme- nt to benefit the entire nation and in so doing, achieve their own goals. d Support Glon Canyon Roads Another resolution was passed in support of roads to the Glen Canyon Damsite from the Utah side. The Road Committee was Instructed to make a study of a "sawed timber road from Fredonia, Arizona to Hurricane, Ut connecting with Highway 91. The committe was further Instructed to check on the progress of the road from Twin Rocks to Fruita in Wayne County and to ask the State Road Commision for a survey to be made on Highway 33 through Indian Canyon from Castle Gate to Duchesne. The Legislative Committee was authorized to follow through on legislation for recreational and camp ground improvements on our national forests. They reported on the progress of "Mission 66 regarding improvements of our national parks. 16 H million dollars have been authorized for Improvement and development in the Utah Parks for the next ELEMENTARY NEWS Those who attended PTA last Thursday enjoyed an outstanding program presented by the 6th grade students under the direction of Mr. Kirby, assisted by Mr. Judd and Mrs. Della Pugh. They sang, Pledge of Allegiance, a new patriotic song. The students demonstrated their skill In spelling from unfamiliar lists which were prepared from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th, grade spellers. They also displayed their posters on a social'1 studies unit about Japan. They answered questions asked by the parents. The program was concluded by dancing, directed by Mrs. Pugh. The PTAfficers gave prizes to the first, second and sixth grades for having the largest percent attendance at PTA meet ings during .the year. Friday afternoon a variety program was presented to the public by the children of the Elementary school. A play, "Library Hour" was presented by the 4th grade under the direction of Mr. Smith. It was his hopes that the Stein aker Reservoir would be started during the fiscal year of 1957 and the Emery County Project within the next two years. He stated that engineers would soon be on the Job locating a construction camp for plen Canyon Dam.
