Voltaire THE RIGHT ROAD Ridiculous, to Put It Mildly Alton tlevs Events Dear Marlin and The Roving Reporter: I have intended to write a fan letter since the first issue In which you asked for contributions of local news, and again when the intriguing column by the Roving Reporter made lts appearance as a regular feature of your very fine home paper. Then when the Johnson Reporter and the Bashful Salt Laker horned in I was happy to Just lazily read their stuff and enjoy every bit of it There 'are, however, several items in the February 9 issue that stir me Into grudging action. First I must comment on earlier and work off a bit of mental challenge with Old Rover that name, in spite of me, should make him Jump to attention. 1 think its Plitc, and in fine keeping with the masculinity of the olumn. As for him getting his news items from under the dryer I dont think he could keep his idenity secure there, in fact it is a most conspicuous place for a Rover" to be, besides the News he could gather there would not justify baking the bald spot Better sick it out in the Barber Shopsi friend reporter. It was nice reading my own name as contributed by the Bashful Salt Laker. I read it from my own paper too, not being close , ROBINSON Secretary Published Feb. 23, Mar. It gave me a great idea. For years I have thought, why not write a Gone and Almost Forgotten column of old Home Town folks me In the by ways of cosmopolitan streams, but the same slow coordination that pounds out this letter several weeks after it is most pertinent, bogged me into my easy chair. If a lot of us Old Has Beens contributed to such a column we may hit on each others off weeks and keep it going. Besides, no one else would know just who was writing when and we could thus protect the Bashful Salt Lakers sensitivity. When I meet the Old Home Folks the perpetual questions pop up, Where do you live? How many children do you have? Common questions, I think, so we could call it, Whose Where and Whos New. Or, have a Hall of Fame entitled Local Yokel Strokel Rich, or Local Yokel Strokel Out. Well, to get to the business of this letter. I am delighted to learn of the Stake Building Program and I have a suggestion that may prove to be helpful by way of raising funds. It would certainly renew memories and call attention to the old residents whose heart strings ever yaarn for Kanab, once they have lived in that community. The plan is to purchase honorary memberships for early builders of the Stake who have passed on for say $5.00 each. Their names could be mentioned and a short stltement of what they have contributed to the building of the community In which they lived. You would print the names and statements concerning their lives and possibly contributed pictures In a column in your paper then when The World, Finett Bourbon Since 1795 . nan-sOT- s. w (1848-194- ? : V (1820-1899- ) (1858-193- Halstedt Ranch Kamas, Utah Febraury 17, 1956 Editor Marlin B.
