Show Social SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY JUNE 27, 2001 Lions to put on annual 4th of July breakfast and hamburger cookout Kanab Lions Club announced that it has selected the Friends of the Library to participate in ' this years breakfast and hamburger cookout. Friends of the Library is a local civic club dedicated to the support of our Kanab Library. Breakfast will be served at the Gazebo starting at 7 a.m. on July 4th. Breakfast will include all you can eat: hotcakes, eggs", sausage and bacon with bever- Gardner wins Lion's award f t U.S. Gardner (r) of Kanab has been awarded the D. A. Skeen Award from the Utah Lions Club. Gardner has been involved in, and contributed to, many community projects through the years. Kanab has benefited greatly by his hard work and involvement in the Kanab Lions Club. The D.A. Skeen Award is the highest honor that the state Lions Club presents. Congratulations Uke! s ? Kanab City Library sponsors Mr. Max the Musicman Kanab City Library will sponsor Mr. Max the Musicman from South Central Communications for the Childrens Library Story Safari on Wednesday, June 27 1 from a.m. Take a music story break, well be meeting in the The Library will be closed July 4, no safari that day, but a super neat surprise is in store for Wednesday, July 11. Voices from the past (a real professional storyteller) coming to Childrens Library! Joyce B. Hunsaker, an award winning historical interpreter and storyteller will be sharing her Sacagawea story with us. That is July 11, Wednesday from 10- -. 10-1- multi-purposeroo- m. 11 a.m. Safari on over for the excitement. Now that there are beautiful handcrafted cabinets (built by Gary Johnson of Kanab) in the Board Room, the librarys Special Collections items are in those - rr)C8S3 if f) Ecucca END-OF-MON- 1 brary are listing and preserving these items in protectivesheets, laminating the items that can be, and putting them all in acid free boxes. The cabinets also house the librarys local history books, local family history books and papers, local oral history items, and any rare old books and artifacts that have been acquired by or donated to the library. The Friends group and the library staff will welcome more oral local history items, local family histories, local his- M H H IXIIIII prior to Western Legends Round-U- p festivities planned for September 6, 7 & 8. For a tax deductible donation of $100 you can have your name or a family member name engraved on a Memorial Brick. This is a unique opportunity to have the names of your children or grandchildren included in the Memorial site. Contributions will be used to complete the parking lot and add lighting to the site. N love and friendship shall be On June 16, 2001, the Levi Stewart Memorial was dedicated. Included on the site is the Memorial Walkway. The Walkway is composed of over 700 bricks, of which about 300 have been engraved with donor designated names as well as the names of individuals who worked on the project. Following the dedication, a significant number of people asked if Memorial Bricks could still be purchased. As a result, the Foundation has decided to accept brick donations until September 1.
