Veazie said he likes to think of Bee Hive as a transitional care home and hopes to work in conjunction with other professional facilities in the area which offer similar types of care and assistance; and together as a team, meet the needs of the elderly within this community in achieving overall wellness and improved quality of life for them. According to Veazie there are certain minimal requirements that the elderly must meet to become a resident of the home: the ability to transfer themselves cept of Assisted Living. A Bee Hive Home opened its doors in Kanab with a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 11. Unlike other similar facilities, the residents who live at the Bee Hive Home, located in the Ranchos near the city park, are there by choice. The resi- dents are not mandated to stay in the home. It is not a locked down facility. Residents have the freedom to come and go as they please. According to Bryan Veazie, administratordirector, Bee Hive Homes feature family style living in a residential setting for those elderly who are striving to maintain as much independence as possible and who are not en Its FTD minimal assistance. The Bee Hive home has 11 rooms, three of which can be suites for couples or friends that want to be in the same room. Each bedroom has a half bath. (There is a large bathroom in the house for showers or baths). Each room is furnished with a bed and a dresser, but personal furniture is allowed if desired. Each person is encouraged to personalize his or her room. Residents can erjoy a quality lifestyle featuring both individual privacy and group association. The home has a homey living room, kitchen and dining area. We like to emphasize the home cooked meals, even the bread will be home made, says Veazie. We want the residents not only to feel at home but to also get the aromas and tastes ofhome. He added that meals are planned by a dietitian and that all meals are served family style. Residents are also served three snacks every day. Also included are basic daily housekeeping, personal laundry, personalized assistance, utilities, and cable hook up. Resi24-ho- ur dents are offered their own private phone line, but at additional cost. There is a house phone that can be used by everyone. Another nice feature in the home is a voice activated inter- that goes throughout the entire facility. The home also has emergency home health service. The staff will be certified in CPR, First Aid, and Food Handling. Veazie said activities will be provided at the home that are calendared monthly. Transportation will be available for outside activities for those who do not drive. We are excited to be in Kanab com system 24-ho- ur and feel that the community will benefit from us being here, says Veazie. Not only will we provide quality living and quality care for the elderly, but we will also be providing employment opportunities for people in the community. Veazie stressed that the facility provides peace of mind for the family in knowing that their loved one is getting the care and attention that they might not get in another facility or if they lived on their own. There are more than 80 Bee Hive Homes in the country. Every home is independently owned and operated. The owner of Bee Hive Homes in Kanab is Kirk Terry, who lives in St. George. The home is State Licensed, a member of State Associations, National Residential Care Association, Assisted Living Facility Association.
