Show Sports ""g ; Local youth enjoy Japan experience By Carol Sullivan The second annual student exchange with our sister city Tarui, Japan, was perfect timing to visit Japan. Everyone learned that the trains run on time and do not wait. During rush hour, they also learned to stay together as a group, get out of the way and how to squeeze into a crowded train. Mayor Mori of Kakamigahara greeted the group with enthusiasm and took time to show them his city, in full bloom, and the Youth Nature Center. Mori also hosted a reception in honor of Kanabs newly elected mayor, Karen Alvey On arrival in Tarui, members of the Society to Foster Friendship with Kanab, had made all of the arrangements for home group. From January to April, students prepared for the trip by studying the Japanese language, culture, history, transit system, food, and how a Japanese home is different from an American home. The American students met with Japanese students for a discussion on topics of interest to students. They had an interpreter and moderator. Japanese students had questions about student pressures. After some tearful goodbyes, the Kanab group boarded the train for Osaka. The final day in J apan was spent visiting the Peace Park in Hiroshima and the beautiful Miajima resort. On arrival back in the United States, students voiced their determination to return next year. The exchange is sponsored students welcomed Kanab students to their school on their recent by F.A.C.E.S.
