Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Community Utah letter carriers to collect Chamber meets at noon food on Saturday, May 9 (JLIcrc yOUR tomorrow Letter carriers from throughout the state will be collecting food donations while making their appointed rounds on Saturday, May 9. Utah letter carriers are hoping to fill local food bank shelves, which are traditionally bare this time of year. All food will be distributed to local food banks. Last year, Utah letter carriers collected over 450,000 pounds of food, enough to provide 150,000 meals for hungry Utah children and adults. Statistics show that children eat 60 percent of all meals provided by the food bank, and that 40 percent of all meals are provided to the working poor. The Letter Carriers Food Drive food is the largest single-da- y drive in the nation. Im confident that our customers generosity will parallel the enthusiasm thats been exhibited by all our letter carriers for this very worthwhile proj ect, said Steve McNees, Salt Lake City Letter Carrier and President of Branch 111 of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). It may mean a heavier mail satchel and maybe a few sore muscles, but the burden will be eased by knowing that our efforts will help feed families in need. The NALC is a postal labor union representing more than 300,000 members who have a long history of service to their communities.
