After she and her husband built their own log home and completed it enough to be able to move into this last spring, she admitted they had chosen a good spot for their garden. Having compared the outside temperature at the house, which is lower than the garden spot, she found the tempera- - Used oil is a valuable, resource or a terrible pollutant. non-renewa- ble IT DEPENDS ON YOU! VALUABLE - When used oil is used as recycled motor oil or fuel, it keeps our limited supply of crude oil for future uses. POLLUTANT - When dumped on the ground or placed in a landfill, it endangers our underground water supply. And when poured into the sewer, it really messes up the system and is very costly to remove. THE U.S. EPA - The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 60 percent of the people in the U.S. change their own motor oil and that 90 percent of that oil is disposed of improperly. Some might even call it a mission. Karlin Myers will perform his one-ma- n play, Joseph Smith to area residents on Monday, June to Jo- 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the KHS audi- torium. Since Myers joined the LDS Church 19 years ago at the age of 20, people have been commenting on his resemblance to Joseph Smith, the religions founder and first prophet, seer and revelator.Myers is the same height and weight as the prophet, has the same color hair and eyes and the same prophetic nose, as he calls it. He also shares the d personality usually attributed to the prophet. Prior to his recent move to Kanab, Myers performed the play for wards and stakes in Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Responses from the audiences have been tremendous. There is quite an inspiring story behind the development of the play. Because of the prompting behind its creation, it has not been surprising to Myers that numerous people have come up after the performance, often in tears, to relate the touching effect the play had on them. The admission price is $5.00 or $20.00 for an immediate family. Perhaps there are those who are aware that there can be more than one kind of environment within the grounds on which we live. Especially if the area is large. Air acts, as does frost or water, and seeks the lowest level. Cool air is heavier than is warm air, therefore a lower area will be cooler and subject to frosts earlier and later. Whereas a higher elevation will be warmer. It can be advantageous to a gardener with acreage, to do some homework before deciding where to put what, when planting an orchard or growing vegetables. Particularly so if there is any difference in elevation within the area. This is what one of my friends neighbors has done. She has two gardens. A cool one and a warm one. At the bottom she grows lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, peas, etc., cool weather crops. Higher up she grows warm weather crops. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, beans, etc. Planting trees, and bushes can be an environmental factor within all lot boundaries. Be aware of where shade will fall from trees before planting. Do some homework as to tree size and density of shade. Never plant in haste, trees are very permanent. Place a long stick in the ground where you plan to plant the tree. See where the shadow falls at various times of the day and also the year. Decide if thats where you want it, after multiplying the width and height to the size the tree will eventually grow.
