Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Thursday, December 30, 1982 - Page Two Who Are The Elves? Dear Elves, Its the same, start, I hear running feet, I open the door just in time to hear the gate fall shut and see a shadow running under the street light. Always some gift, something made by clever little hands, perhaps some sweets, all wrapped up with anticipation and tied with smiles. always theres a knock, I Always I want to yell, to call out, to let them know that I care, that they are appreciated. But no, something catches the words before I have a chance to say anything. They dont want to be noticed, thats not why they do it. Giving for the pure simple sake of giving makes their feet as light as their intentions and they are gone when I reach the door. They will always be gone before I reach the door. As thin as the frost, as warm as innocence, they give all that is priceless, and take only me. ..back to when my heart was that package by the door-freAnonymous who Scott Jackson, right, manager of the Outdoorsman, congratulates orleaji Kelly, grand was the winner ot the Peak 1 tent, given away in the Outdoorsman s store. opening. Kerol and I think our move to Ramona (for a long will winter vacation) in ties here family strengthen Southern California. My sister lives near Santa Monica and Kerols sister Emma Jean is near in Chula Vista. Our other sisters. LaVenda and Verna, just joined us to celebrate birthdays and holidays here in Sunnyland. We hope our escape from Kanab for a few months will also provide time to concentrate a little better on Kane Countys political, social and economic problems. Kanab is our home, it does have a few problems, and we would like to help solve them. For example, I have sent a page from Ramonas weekly newspaper which comes out on Thursday like the SUN. and it contains an idea you might use to encourage local shopping, instead of residents spending time and money to shop in St. George, Cedar City or Page. A BUCK WELL SPENT The other day, I saw a chain saw advertised in The Senti-neI took some of the money that the newspaper pays me to sell advertising and paid Ransom Bros, hard, cold cash for the saw. The hardware store used my loot to pay their sales clerk who wanted to save some of it at Security Pacific Bank and spend the rest for Christmas gifts. The bank loaned some money including the clerk' s to a master welder who used the money to buy a new welding outfit that would increase his production. The welder's business increased to the point that he was able to hire an assistant welder. The new helper used his first paycheck to pay back his Dad who had helped financially while he was unemployed. Dad, who had never really counted on getting the money, back from his son, decided to use the money to splurge on a gift for his wife... a cashmere sweater that he bought at Vale Fashions. At Vales they realized how well sales were going, so decided to pay a bonus to the clerk who had made the sale. Now, the clerk had seen a digital watch that Ramona Pharmacy had advertised and decided that the watch would make a super gift for her mother.. She ran over and bought the watch with her bonus money. The Ramona Pharmacy paid the Sentinel for the advertisement that had featured the watch and today, the newspaper paid me. 1 am now on my way to do all my Christmas shopping in Ramona. Isn't this a much happier story than it would be if I had spent the money for the chain saw in San Diego. None of my friends and neighbors in Ramona would have enjoyed the benefit of my well spent buck!" My recent letter about changing my mind to use the old Courthouse for awhile instead of spending money to tear it down, may have been received too late to affect the outcome, but it described some of the frustrations felt by outsiders like me.
