She was given the name of Nannette. We failed to report last week that Kathy Crofts, daughter of Ramona and ODean Crofts, fell at the site of their new home. She was helping to clear away some boards and slipped down through the opening into the basement. She suffered a broken arm, some cracked ribs and bad bruises. She is now back in school and a mighty lucky little girl not to have been hurt worse. Last Thursday evening, anyone traveling up through the valley would have thought the whole town was on fire, but on second look it was just a big, big, big bonfire at the high school flat. For two days, all the different classes at school gathered wood, sticks, logs, old fences, anything that would bum as there was a contest to see which class could gather the most bunting material. Then it was all heaped (1 mean heaped) into one big pile. This pep rally started off the baseball season. Figures Obtained this week by Fred Brueck from local weath?' man, Sterling Jchnsoo, indicate that 1974 has been one of the driest years in local history with the first eight months showing only half as much rainfall recorded as the 30 year average for the months January through August. January of this year got off to a good start with 2.77 inches of moisture being recorded, but then th plugs were put In place and only very light amounts have been received since then. The total rainfall for 1974 to the end of August was 4,45 inches. This compares to a 30 year average of 8.01 inches and to the 1973 eight month amount of 10,42 inches. Lowest month recorded was May with but .02 inches of moisture with June close to It with only ,04 inches. Every month this year, except January has been lower than last years monthly totals, although three months were quite close. One storm in September (on the 5th) did bring some moisture, but it was not enough and comes too late in the season to do much good for this year. That day .38 inches of rainfall was recorded by Mr, Johnson.
