Volume 38, Number 11 Chamber discusses plans at membership meeting Kanab Chamber of Commerce held a general membership meeting Thursday, June 12 in the Kanab Elementary School to which about 21 persons came. The meeting was conducted by newly elected Chamber president Dale E. Clarkson. Items discussed included the Chamber Building and Museum, budget for the coming year, advertising, payment of dues, and other activities which the Chamber may profitably be involved in. A film was presented by Mr. Ted Cox of California Pacific Utilities Co., which depicted the importance, and gave ways, of sealing a product, a person or anything else worthwhile. It suggested that we do not give up, but that we give whatever is worthwhile the second try. Vince Lombardi, Coach of the famous Green Bay Packers, was star of the film, explaining throughout the importance of giving everything one has to the task which he is dedicated to. The film was very impressive and most timely for the Chamber as they begin another summer season, and contemplate possbile projects that need to be carried on. Some suggestions made by those present were that a western theme in connection with the visitors center and museum would be most effective, finishing the front in western fashion and perhaps a wagon on the front lawn. Present care which is needed at the building was also discussed. A Western Week for Kanab was suggested also. Setting the Chamber year and the collection of dues up differently was also suggested! and discussed. Officers of the Chamber have since the general meeting met and are working on a budget for the coming year. Some areas cf the Kanab business life were well represented, while other areas did not do so well in attendance. Our possibities are great, and all ti it at is needed is for us all to work together and each to carry Ms fair share, said President Clarkson. Mr. Cox echoed these sentiments as he marveled at the natural beauty which this area possesses. the time of his death. Boyd was highly gifted musically and, was noted for his sense of humor. This expenditure would be for a projected 675 cars road. On the per day using tho Bullfrog to other hand, the Committee's figures show that 1,375 cars per day would benefit from a $2,800,000 road project from Glen e Canyon City in Kane County, to the Warm Bay area on Lake Powell. This is a project that we have long advocated and one on which $200,000 was appropriated by the State Road Commission several years ago, but which remains unspent. Such a project into Lake Powell from U. S. 89 could then be extended from Warm Creek to Last Chance and on into the Garfield County area. From projected costs this road could be built for the same amount of money for the higher priority projects serving less people. Creek-Padr- It is contended that there are no facilities at Warm Creek and Padre Bay. This is true, but there are no facilities at The Road Commission is apparently willing to gamble that the Park Service will provide such facilities. Why not do the same for Warm Creek and Padre Bay where there has been a travel demand for several years and unimproved access to the Lake Powel Shore since it was created? We are all in agreement that the developed projects are overcrowded and that something must be done as soon as possible to alleviate these conditions. We wish to commend the State Road Commission members for their role in looking ahead and planning to fill the needs of the traveling public. We do feel that we should all do all we can to make more developments available in as short a time as possible. Therefore, we wish to propose the following: 1. That the No. 1 priority remain with State Route 2. That the Warm U. 95. e Bay road be given equal with other project. any contemplated priority Creek-Padr- 3.
