Utahns Take Beautiful State For Granted Travel Council Says Utahns long have taken the wealth of scenic and recreational attractions in their home state for granted, so long, in fact, that they occasionally are aacused of smugness by visitors. It is true that Utah has three national parks, tying California for first place in that category. Its also true that Utah is second in number of national monuments with eight, and fourth in the number of national forests, with six. Then there are two national recreation areas, a national historic site, and a vast, unspoiled area protected under the National Wildernc' s Act. The state park system, likewise, has expanded greatly during the past three years. During the short period of time, more than a dozen state parks have been added, bringing the total to 35. It is ironic to Utahns that their state, still thought to be a desert by many eastern out-of-sta- te val-J- t Love it for the way it pampers your every whim for comfort Americans, has 16 boating state parks, and 15 where swimming is permitted. Water-skiing- , rapidly gaining in popularity with Utahrs, is a chief attraction at nearly half the state parks in the Utah system. Sixteen of the state parks are historic in nature, eight are geologic attractions, 21 parks have camping facilities, 24 are scenic and seven are museums. Only seven of the 35 parks are undeveloped, a situation to be remedied as the Utah Park and Recreation Commission budget expands. Utah is liberally Finally, sprinkled with scenic areas that, if they were to be located in nearly any other state, Kanab News Notes Miss Gevene Findlay Salt Lake City was visiting friends and relatives over the weekend.
