Check through the various divisions and plan your exhibit. Get in touch with the supervisor and register for the Fair. Plan to attend the Fair and make it the best ever. Red Shale In the Moonlight Received several calls and comments about the letter to the editor concerning the County truck and red shale. I felt that this small notice about this incident would do one of two things if anything shady was going on it would let responsible parties know these things do not go unnoticed: and on the other hand if there was nothing shady about it, a prompt, legitimate answer would be made. Merrill MacDonald, County Commissionto my office this week. He said he came er, felt the same way. He stated that when working on taxpayer salaries, so to speak, and using taxpayer equipment, one needs to realize that they are going to be watched. He further stated, addressing his comments to the writer of the letter: "In answer to the anonymous inquiry about the county truck. You or any other citizen of Kane County certainly have a right to know. I l and reasonthink the explanation Is able. If you wish we can discuss the facts and you may make your own deductions. Mr. MacDonald explained the situation to me it sounded both legal and reasonable and I have no reason to disbelieve it He has Invited anyone, especially Puzzled citizen to contact him and discuss the reasons. Now I promise there will be no more said about this In the paper If . , . there are 10 or 12 loads of red shale dumped and smoothed out over the automobile test road in back of my establishment. Nuff said!! both-lega- I see that the two wards of Kanab have started working on the corner west of the church house. The plans call for quite an area of concrete parking which can also be used for other activities, such as dancing, tennis and other sporting events. Im sure we will all be asked to do a little work on the project and perhaps donate a few dollars but it will be worth it. I was told the other day, by a man in a pretty good position to calculate these things, There is going to be a lot of money made in Kane County in the next 19 years, but It wont be the local people, unless they get on the balL I dont know how much money will be made, but I agree that if we local folks arent on the ball we wont make it. Maybe you dont want to make it, you say! Maybe youd like to see this area stay just the way it is and not have all the problems that go with growth, but stay at the nice peaceful, way of life. James Cannon, at a recent Resources Development meeting in Kanab told of a lady upstate who didnt want any of these development boys changing things she liked them the way they were. His answer to her was. In effect: Lady, these changes are going to come whether you or anyone else likes it or not. The Important question Ls are you going to see that they are done in an organized manner so you can keep the values you like about the area, or are you going to let the growth be wild and unorganized, leaving a shambles of the Fine old things? A public hearing is scheduled in Kanab August 29 at the courthouse concerning a proposed Zoning Ordinance. Whos going to be there? We hope the local citizens will be there so that outside developers cannot dictate what happens in our county in this regard. Copies of the proposed ordinance may be obtained from the county clerk at the court house. Another thing we need, and I quote Mr. Cannon again, is to be able to put our legs under a table, sit down together, and talk." We need to be able to talk with each other, try to understand each others views and respect each others opinions. . ,, There will always be controversies over a proposed project as for Instance the development of a good road Into the Warm Creek area of Lake Powell. These things need to be discussed by all and each try to help the other but, we also need some immediate action besides discussion. Lets have both and with both lets have a goodly amount of cooperation. Nuff said again. slow-movin- g Sub-Divisi- - 4 n L M-M- Kanab news and current events , n e t i - v |
