Since Verle did not recognize the boys and neither of them were carrying any luggage she surmised that they plight be running away from home and called the Highway Checking Station. A check with the Utah Highway Patrol brought out that two boys were missing from the Hurricane Boys Ranch and Deputy Sheriff D. F, Rider was advised of the two juveniles seen in town in order that he could check them out The deputy was. unable to locate the boys and after driving several miles east on the highway concluded that they had caught a ride and he decided to return to town for more information and planning. TWO MLES farther the patrolman was able to pull the black El Camino to the ABOUT on side of the road and bring it to a stop. After searching the two juvenile occupants for firearms and checking the registration it was learned that the car belonged to Dennis Judd of Kanab, Utah. The boys said the car had been given to them by a Mexican, but they did not kfow his name. The two juveniles (age 14 and 17) were taken into custody as "runaways and delivered to the juvenile authorities in Flagstaff by Deputy Sheriff D. F. Rider. When Patrolman Cluff returned to Jacob Lake he made refueling of his patrol car the first order of business and it took 181 gallons of gasoline to fill the standard 18;gallon tank.
