Travel Is Expected To Best- - In .Past Years Considerable speculation ex ists throughout Utah as to whether this summers travel season will' exceed that of past years. Recent data, from Bryce Canyon National Park would indicate very definitely that will enjoy one of the biggest travel seasons in the states history, according to Superintendent Louis W. Hallock. Travel into Bryce Canyon over the Memorial Day week end ovshows an increase of 50.7 er that for the same period last year. Campground use for the same period shows an even 163. greater increase For the tryeL year to date, from January u, travel into the over park has increased 19 the same period last year January 1 to June 1. Comparing travel data for May 1962 with May 1963 it is found that For exthe increase is 23,336 persons visited ample, Bryce Canyon in May 1963 while only 16,915 persons visited the park in May 1962. The general increase in the number of visitors and families camping out is the most reinmarkable, showing a 125 crease over last year. There have been similar increases in visitor use of the lodging and food facilities at the Bryce Canyon Inn. It is interesting to note that the new Sunset Campground completed last summer was expected to meet camping needs for several years to come. According to present upward travel trends this campground will not meet the requirements for the 1964 season. Kanab City Mayor H. Committee meetings were held at the Ele. mentary School and dinner was at Parry Lodge. The dinner speaker was Mr. W. C. Palfrey-maDirector of Industrial for our state. Dr. . Planning Beckstrand of the Extension Service, arranged the program. The meeting was well attended by representatives and committee members from all five counties. The most important event of the evening was the discussion regarding Fish and Game Control arrangements for the Lake Powell Development. Arizona was represented by members of the Page Chamber of Commerce, the- - Northern $3rizona Association and the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. The discussion was friendly and construe, tive, although many different opinions were expressed. One very constructive agreement which was reached as a result of the discussion was to hold periodic, meetings between the Utah and Arizona groups in the future ' in the hope that constructive planning may speed the development of our area. At an executive meeting after the regular dinner with the delegation from Arizona, the Five County Executive Committee passed a resolution authorizing the Arizona delegation to represent them at a Fish and Game meeting which' is being held at the present-tim- e in Arizona. It also went on record as supporting a rec. ommendation by the Arizona group, which if put in effect, would allow Utah fishing lie. ense holders to fish anywhere on Lake Powell, and would require Arizona license holders to buy a stamp to fish on Utah waters. Recommendation was that the stamp would cost ng n, joint ! Paula T rt marjrjr Kanab Goes Over Blood Quota $2.00. Most Kane County officials who have studied the matter, and are concerned with the future development of our country, feel that much more study and planning must be made before such a recommendation is accepted.
