Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Crosby received word this week that their son, Douglas, has been advanced to 3rd class petty officer in his naval duties. Douglas is stationed at Pearl Harbor. Mrs. Minnie Carroll, mother of Mrs. Sherman Crosby, has been here for a visit, leaving to go to Idaho and Alaska to visit with other children. She resides in Long Beach. The Kanab Ladies Literary League will meet this Saturday at 2.30 pm. at Parry Lodge, said Mrs. Ora Eathough. On Thursday and Friday the 18th and 19th Dr. Don Thomas and George Henderson both with the Extension Service will conduct a Horse Clinic. All people who are interested in Horses will find this very valuable, this will be in Kanab, beginning at 10.00 a m. each day. On Friday the 19th at 2 p.m. there will be a meeting with Dr. Arvil Stafk that all people interested in Community Beautification are invited to attend This will be at the Chapel in Kanab. Elder Heaton told the history of the Star Spangled Banner, how it was written and how dear it is to us as United States Citizens. It was not a religious program, the chairman introduced Elder Heaton and his companions as missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Dry Saints, as they stood they received a very warm applause. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Chamber-lai- n went to Santa Clara, Utah Thursday afternoon to visit at he Arlo Hafens. Mrs. Chamber lain remained to look after the Hafen children while their parents went to General Conference in Salt Lake Mr. Chamberlain returned home Friday. The Missionary Mothers met a April 4th at the home of Mrs. J. Heaton to fix boxes of goodies to be sent to the missionaries in the States and money to those serving foreign missions where food couldn be sent. Reports of each missionary was given and a news letter was gathered and will be memeographed and sent to each missionary. There were eleven mothers present. Refreshment wer served. We have 15 missionaries in the field at .the present time. Visiting at the Ervin Hoyts is Vondell and her two sons from northern Utah. She brought her mother home, she Mrs. Hoyt had gone up with the Rex Browns and visited with Vondell. The Reo Heatons went to Cedar City Saturday night to see 'heir son Gary perfome in he opera presented by CSU. Carol H. Lamb spent the week end in Cedar City with her daughter Linda who is attending CSU she attended a Mothers Tea, she reported a very nice week end. Bishop and Mrs. Joseph C. and children, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Palmer attended General Conference held in Salt Lake. Terry Tait son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tait spent the weekend home from his studies at CSU. Dot Holgate daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Holgate visited here over the weekend from her studies at BYU. Mrs. Gene Wilson and daughter were also vis itors at the Holgate home. The Sophomore class at the Valley High School presented 4 one act plays Friday night to a ery appreciative audience.
