TB Association Shows County Sfastics On Disease Tuberculosis, throughout once widespread Utah,- - is now found in pockets of higher prevalence. This is evident from a new publication and. by the Utah Tuberculosis Health Association. Even so, every county in Utah except Daggett, Morgan, and Piute, have had at least one newly discovered case of TB during the past five years. Kane County recorded three new cases from 1955 to 1959 For the same period, Utah registered 520 people discovered to have tuberculosis. Seventy percent of the cases came from Weber Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties. San Juan, Wasatch, Unitah, Summit and Toole counties have the greatest concentration of tuberculosis. The average annual case rate which puts the number of cases on a population basis, for Utah is 11 8 per 100,000 population. The case rate for Kane County is 18.2 per 100,000 population. Since each year it is estimated that almost as many active cases go undetected as there are cases discovered, it is evident that the pople in most counties still are exposed to considerable infection said Franklin K. Brough. Executive Director of' the Utah People throughout Utah should seek and support adequate numbers of well trained public health workers because every patient with tuberculosis must be carefully followed for many years to assure the public he is under treatment and that his disease does not reactivate. In addition, the contacts of every paient must, be thoroughly for tuberculosis so investigated that they will not unknowingly pass the disease on to others, Mr. Brough said.
