BY TIIE ACT OF AUGUST 24, 1912, AS AMENDED BY THE ACTS OF MARCH 3, 1933, AND JULY 2, 1946 (Title 39, United States Code, Section233) SHOWING THE OWNERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, AND CIRCULATION OF Southern Utah News published weekly at Kanab, Utah for October 1, National ET.A. Sets Goal: Over 12,000,000 Members More American children than ever before are enrolled ,in school this fall. And more and more of their parents and teachers will be P.T.A. members by the time the National Congress of Parents and Teachers concludes its annual October membership enrollment. Through the efforts of the millions of parents and teachers already working in P.T.A.s, children all over the United States are assured the closest kind of home-scho- cooperation . 1959. 1. Mrs. James C. Parker, of Grand Rapids. Michigan, president of the National Congress, points to such P.T.A. achievements as a significant factor' in the growth of the National Congress, which already ranks as the world's largest voluntary organization. "A membership of more than 12,000,000 is our goal this year, she says, and we intend to call on all the families we can to enwhether roll new members parents or teachers or other citizens with a real interest m children. Paragraphs 2 and 3 include, n cases where the stockholder or ecurity holder appears upon the books of the company as trustee or in any other fiduciary relation, he name of the person or corpora-iofor whom such trustee is acting; also the statements in the two paragraphs show the affiants full mow ledge and belief as to the g dren." Because the P.T.A.s chi 'f concern is for children, its action on their behalf starts even before they're ready for school. A program emphasizes the child's health, his safety, and his sound emotion il development. It may take the form of an immunization pi ject like that undertaken in Tennessee's Washington County, where children started to school this fall protected against diphtheria, smallpox, whooping cough, and polio because P.T.A. members took the lead in a county-wid- e fight against communicable disease. Usually a garden that is fall plowed will have soil that is more workable when it comes time to plant again in the spring. Ive been going ocr the 4 H records from our County and State Fair. As usual, I'm impressed with the tremendous amount of work that is accomplished by our young club work. For expeople in ample, at our County Fair this year. 190 4 H club members 459 articles. 332 of these rated a blue ribbon 80 rated a red ribbon and only 47 rated white ribbons At the State Fair there were 31 exhibits representing the work of 53 of our Kane County 4 H members. 18 of these rated blue ribbons, 7 red ribbons and 6 white ribbons. Remember, this is in competition with the best from the other counties of Utah. I take mj hat off to the 4 H members of Kane County and also to the leaders and parents who put up with headaches and other difficulties rlurng the year in order to help 4 H club work to make the best better. I was just noticing that the week of October 4th through the 10th is National Fire Prevention Week. Nowdays almost even' week is something or other week, but I ' beleve that Fire Prevention Week is one that we could all recognize with profit. The way to recognize this week is to get rid of the fire hazards around our homes and farms and to have our families acquainted with what we should do in case of fire. For example, it wouldnt hurt to plan at least two ways to get out of every room in the house and escape routes for every member of the family. Then train everyone in their use until even the youngest child understands clearly what to do. This simple precaution could save the life of one you love.. 4-- - NEW GIFT ITEMS JUST ARRIVED STAINLESS SALAD FORK & SPOON sets 2pcs.. $1.95 9 Salt & Pepper Mills, ebony or light Walnut 2pcs $4.95 Crystal Snack server, silver plated Lazy Susan base $4.95 Crystal Salt & Pepper, silver plated stand, w handle $3.75 6pc.
