According to p. James Cannon, director, the council has adopted a formal resolution in favor of this name. If accepted by the fed-e- i al government, which is building the dam, the name would make the huge lake a memorial to Major John Wesley Powell, famous river explorer, scientist, and one of the founders of the d Geological Survey. Mayor Powell led two expeditions down the Green and Colorado g Rivers in 1X69 and 1X71-7and naming many of the natuial features in the vicinity of the rivers including Glen Canyon itself. Major Powell aUo was the first man to propose damming of the Colorado River. Mr Cannon said, and he was very influential in federal lingation establishing and reclamation policies. Despite his prominent as an explorer, scientist, and administrator, however, Major Powells name has never been applied to any of the remarkable natural features he discovered and first publicized, according to Mr. Cannon. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Dennis and son Donald returned this week from a months vacation and tra- vel to Ohio, Washington D. C., and other eastern cities. They returned bv the northern route and visited in Yellowstone National Paik. They enjoyed a visit in the east with Mr. Dennis folks.
