Weekend Is Success Kitchen Saturday The 311h Quarterly Stake Conference of the Kanab Stake was held at Kanab April 21 and 22, 1956. Elder Bruce R. McCon-kl- e of the First Council of the Seventy and Bro. Stewart B. Eo cles of the General Church Wel- fare Committee represented the General Authorities at this conference. President Daniel 5- - Frost pre- sided at the conference, and conducted the meetings under the direction of Elder McConkie. Subjects stressed included: Et- ernal salvation: willing service; economic responsibility of Individuals, families, and the church; Priesthood authority; importance of genealogical and temple work; payment of tithes and offerings; and daily living of the principles of the gospel. t Those who spoke during sessions of the conference were Elder McConkie, Bro. Pres. Daniel S. Frost, Pres. Odell J. Watson, Pres. Ernest Jay Whiting Jr., and members of the High Council, Burton J. McAllister, J. Gumsey Brown, and Charles Cecil Pugh. Music for the Sunday morning session was by the Orderville Ward Choir, directed by Sis. Las-cChamberlain, with organ accompaniment by Sis. Hester Heaton. Music for the afternoon session was by the Kanab North and South Wards Singing Mothers, directed by Sis. Maurine Jones, accompanied on the organ by Sis. Elva Judd. Preliminary organ music was by Sis. Hester Heaton and Sis. Elva Judd. Congregational singing was conducted by Mason M. Cottam, Stake Music Director. Prayers were offered by Bp. Orvil M. Bushman, Bp. Edward C. Heaton, Ross E. Heaton, Burton O. Rust, Z. Ray Judd, Ray J. Palmer, H. Lamar Chamberlain, A. Lamond Heaton, William C Ileaton, Fred EL Heaton. Cloyd Chamberlain was released as a member of the High Council and as Chairman of the Stake Genealogical Committee; LaRue Chamberlain was released as Secretary of the Stake Genealogical Committee; Webster Adair was released as Superintendent of the Stake Sunday School, together with his counselors L Cornell Chamberlain and Burke B. Sorensen. Allen M. Judd was sustained as Chairman of the Stake Genealogical Committee. L Elmer Jackson and Melvin Rider remained as Assistants on this Cimmittee. Burke B. Swapp, Kanab, has elected chairman of the Kane County Republican organ- Presents Program Mutual Improvement Associa- tion of the Kanab North Ward will present a special program this coming Sunday evening In the regular Sacrament service. The program, centered around youth, and presented by the youth of the North Ward, will begin at 7:30 pun. Much effort has been put Into this program. A fine script of talks, readings and poems has been prepared by Mrs. Helena Watson. Special musical numbers are under the direction of Garth Tietjen. Under the direction of High School Coach, Boyd Adams, those present were assigned several people to see about Joining the team. First practice has been set for next Wednesday evening, May 2, at 6 p.m. at the ball diamond at the Race Track. Former Orderville Man Killed As Log Rolls From Truck A Panguitch man was killed at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday when crushed by a log at Industries the sawmill at Panguitch. John Dexter Crofts was killed instantly when a log rolled from the truck he was helping to unload and struck him, crushing the upper part of his body. He had unhooked the end of a chain holding the logs to the truck and bent over when the log struck his shoulder and back. Mr. Crofts was bom December 30. 1935, in Orderville, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey A. Crofts. He had lived in Orderville until he moved to Panguitch in September, 1954, to work at the Industries. Kitchen, who passed away Wednesday, April 23, will be held In Kanab Saturday, April 28th in the Kanab Chapel at 2 p m.. under the direction of the Kanab South Ward Bishopric. Mr. Kitchen was born at Paria, Utah September 20, 1881, a son of. John G. and Martha Grice Kitchen. He lived there until the 1890's when he moved to Kanab. He received his education at Paria where ha had a private teacher and later attended school 1 in Provo. He was married on December 25. 1903 to Louisa Averett in Kanab. They were later married in the St. Georga Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. Mr. Kitchen was a convert to that church. He was a hard worker during his life and spent many years working as a professional powder man for construction companies. He spent some time with the Lang Construction Company working throughout Nevada and California. He j did nearly all the powder work during the construction of thd Zion road and especially the Zion tunnel He also work a Jack hammer and other kinds of tabor. During his later years he spent much time working as a gardner and was proud of the things he was able to raise. He is survive! by a daughter, Mrs. Ramona Johnson, a son, Carlyle, both of Kanab; a sister, Mrs. Rose Potfcr of Salt Lake City and a half brother, Joseph Honey of Karub. He has five grandchildren. This group of singing men is renowned throughout Utah and the Western States and will offer some of the finest entertainment available. Tickets are being sold by each ward in the Kanab Stake, the proceeds of which will go for each ward's share toward the new stake and ward house to be built in Kanab.
