We mentioned some time ago that a Utah serviceman in an interview in Vietnam was asked if lie approved of the war and why. He said he would rather be fighting over there tlian in his own back yard. He realized as each of us should that if we didn't make a stand against Communism sometime that within our lifetime we would have to make It here. The other night we heard Dean Rusk in an interview say that he could not understand why some people could accept a principal as right two years ago and think that it was wrong now. He was answered that conditions change and that wise men change their minds. The fact of the matter is that the basic reasons for going into Vietnam have not changed one little bit and a few well meaning but unthinking Americans are being led by communists and radicals into acts that are making it harder to bring the war to a successful conclusion and many more boys like Neil Riggs will lose their lives needlessly because of these traitors. This is little satisfaction to Mr, and Mrs. Burns Riggs in the loss of their son. But thank goodness those wdio are fighting for North Vietnam here are in the very small mi- Sometimes we wonder if it is worth while. From the papers and TV we are lrd to believe that most jieople think it Isn't. Rut then when we stop to think back on the whys and wherefores of the conflict, we can not help but more fully appreciate that most people know that it just has to be and that we have thousands of young men like Neil Riggs who will give their lives so that the rest of us can live in a free world. Lee Kuan Yew, prime minister of Singapore, has been visiting in the United States, last week In a talk in St. Louis he said, If the United States left Southeast Asia to the Communists, in three to five, or seven years at the most, they would have me by the throat, Mr. Lee has not been particularly friendly to the United States. Ilis very small country Is the southernmost tip of the Asian mainland and of them all, the most easily defended and would be the last to become communist. What he is saying is that In a short time Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaya, Laos, and South Vietnam would soon come under the domination of China and Russia. nority. Most of us love freedom. Most of us feel America should live up to its committments to protect the small countries from godless China and Russia. And most of us feel that it should be done now, not after many others have been swallowed up as was Hungary and a dozen Indonesia would go next. In fact the only reason that Indonesia isnt already a puppett state of China is the presence of the United States in Vietnam. Then how long could the Philippines last? Not long. And then it would be Japan and India, Australia find New Zea others. So our very sincere thanks go 614-274- lj Mr. Green What helps my neighbor , helps me. land. The boy was Nfil Riggs, whose parents live in Provo. His father was born and reared in Kanab. His grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ensign Riggs. This brings the war very close to home. . . . to Neil Riggs and his buddies who are giving th.ir lives so that at least part of the world can be free. And to the parent-- , and grandjiarents, to the wives and children, we want you to know that we are sure that your loved ones aie not dying in vain. It is because of these boys that our peaceful, beautful little community has a good chance of remaining a peaceful, beautiful little community for a long time to come. If we should pull out now from Vietnam there would he a bigger chance than wc care to think about that in our lifetime the conflict would be brought to our shores. 644-236- 019-N23- 'lELIMVANTED-Mal- e or Female MAKE $30 uo daily on Food Route.
